EEO/AA/F/M/Vet/Disabled JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the supervision of participants of the DWI Court Program and other individuals placed on probation by the Court; assists the Bailiff with maintaining safety, security, and order in the courtroom and other areas of the court building when needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supervises participants of the DWI Court program and individuals placed on probation by the court.
Conducts weekly office visits in accordance with the Court's orders.
Administers random drug and alcohol tests and maintains records of results.
Conducts assessments for all new participants in the DWI Court Program to determine eligibility for participation.
Provides reports to DWI Court team members regarding the status of individuals in the program.
Conducts random home visits for DWI Court participants as directed by the Court.
Establishes and maintains files on all probationers and DWI Court participants.
Attends all required training relevant to the DWI Court.
Attends all DWI Court hearings.
Conducts criminal and traffic background checks for offenders through ACIC/NCIC.
Develops curriculum and maintains a program designed to create awareness and prevention techniques to reduce the number of serious automobile accidents involving teenage drivers.
Prepares press releases, video scripts, informational brochures, etc. concerning the program and its activities and effectiveness.
Provides court security as a backup to the Bailiff as needed.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Makes proper referrals to outside agencies to help DWI Court participants obtain treatment; maintains contact with treatment providers and updates team members on participant's progress.
Prepares monthly and annual statistic reports to be submitted to the Arkansas State Police, Office of Highway Safety, regarding DWI Court participation.
Develops and maintains contact with community resources such as housing, job training, literacy, food banks, etc.; refers probationers and program participants as needed.
Prepares and makes presentations to civic groups within the community to promote public awareness of fatalities involving DWI offenders and teen drivers.
Performs other related duties as required.
PERSONNEL SUPERVISED: None WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed in a smoking-restricted office environment with occasional travel to various locations to conduct home visits. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of probation principles and practices.
Considerable knowledge of laws pertaining to probation work and functions.
Good knowledge of court proceedings and legal terminology.
Some knowledge of social service programs and other community resources.
Good knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques as applied to probation work.
Good knowledge of physical and verbal de-escalation techniques.
Ability to understand, interpret, and prepare written material.
Ability to prepare detailed narrative and statistical reports.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with outside agencies, community civic groups, law enforcement officials, and court officials.
Ability to establish and maintain a detailed record-keeping system.
Ability to handle confidential information in a reliable manner.
Ability to attend work regularly and reliably.
Skill in obtaining necessary information through interviews.
Skill in the operation of a computer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Digital dexterity is necessary for writing and keyboard operation.
Visual acuity is needed for reading and the use of a computer screen.
Ability to hear and speak sufficiently to communicate information in person and by telephone.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of college-level coursework in law, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a related field; some work experience in probation, legal, law enforcement, or a related position; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of an ACIC/NCIC check and CLEST physical and psychological exams.
This position is safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Must be a Certified Law Enforcement, Probation, or Court Security Officer OR be able to obtain certification within one year of employment.
Must be able to obtain ACIC/NCIC certification within one year of employment.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
