Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The CSProcessing Technician performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning,assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution ofreusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned or requiredby the Surgical Services Manager.

Responsibility

Decontaminatesand sterilizes surgical instruments, medical supplies and equipment, andassembles wraps and sterilizes trays and sets of instruments. Follows properStandard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. Monitors biological indicators. Monitorschemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontaminationof instruments and medical equipment. Verifiesthat sterile processing equipment functions properly, requisitions forequipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defectiveequipment.

Accountability

The Central SterileTech reports directly to the Surgical Services Manager.
Special Demands

Mental: Able to performeffectively in highly stressful situations. Able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people and have good communication skills.

Physical: Longperiods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting. Musthave the ability to push/pull/lift greater than 50 lbs. May be exposed tofumes, chemicals, cold, heat, noise, radiation, blood, other bodily fluids, andinfectious diseases.

Qualifications Education: High School graduate and orhigher education desired.

Licensing:National or State certification or equivalent preferred.

Trainingand experience: One year of current experience within the last three years in acomparable job preferred. Knowledge ofsurgical instrumentation and equipment preferred. Maintains CPR/BLScertification.

Complieswith Infection Control, Standard Precautions, and OSHA standards.

Abilityto work independently and with team members. Able to wear personal protectiveequipment (PPE) as needed. Ability to work efficiently in an organized manner. Abilityto understand medical and surgical terminology. Achieve Certified RegisteredCentral Service Technician (CRCST) status within 2/years and CertifiedEndoscope Reprocessor (CER) status prior to 3 years of employment in this position.
