DEPARTMENT: Food Operations

REPORTS TO: Manager, Food Operations
LOCATION: 1921 San Pablo Oakland

POSITION SUMMARY:

Are you a highly organized and motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment? Do you have a passion for helping others and making a difference in the community? The Operations Coordinator I position at Project Open Hand might be the perfect opportunity for you!

In this entry-level role, you'll be responsible for the smooth operation of our Oakland facility, helping the team that ensures that medically tailored meals and groceries are available to our clients. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Production of home-delivered groceries: Packing and preparing grocery orders for delivery to clients.
  • Retrieving, receiving and stocking products: Maintaining inventory levels in our grocery center.
  • Sanitizing the facility and equipment: Ensuring a clean and hygienic environment for food preparation and storage.
  • Supports volunteer project execution by coordinating tasks and demonstrating proper procedures for task completion and product creation.
  • Assisting the Operations team: Supporting the team in distributing groceries and meals to clients.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A commitment to Project Open Hand’s mission and operating principles.
  • Ability and desire to work as a part of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to take direction and responsibility for actions.
  • Ability to safely handle and clean commercial equipment requiring heat, cleaning agents, sharp edges, and other potentially hazardous materials.
  • Previous successful work experience as a logistics or inventory coordinator in a warehouse or grocery store, handling and storing perishable and non-perishable food items.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English to facilitate communication.
  • A flexible and adaptable attitude with willingness to work early mornings, afternoons, weekends or holidays to meet demands.
  • Ability to maintain CA food handling certification.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Experience with inventory tracking software
  • Forklift Certified

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows established protocols to receive, retrieve, rotate and store all products used at Oakland site.
  • Follows established protocols to build tailored products for distribution to POH clients.
  • Follows established departmental policies & procedures related to all job duties.
  • Assists Associate Manager, Grocery Center Operations, as necessary.
  • Maintains a clean work area and follows all local, state and federal health standard guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitized work environment by adhering to the established cleaning schedule, which includes sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting surfaces, as well as routine equipment upkeep including, but not limited to, warehouse, grocery center, coolers and freezers, kitchens, restrooms, vehicles, cubicles, offices and storage spaces. Removes trash, cardboard, compost and recycled material as assigned.
  • Works harmoniously with peers and volunteers to complete the goals of the department.
  • Attends department and organization meetings as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Employee will be required to sit and type regularly for long periods at a time. Employee must bend, stoop and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis. Work environment: The noise level in the work environment will consistently vary from quiet to loud. The work environment will be ever changing between office, kitchen and warehouse environments
