Who We Are:

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is working to end hunger in our community with the food, people and big ideas needed so that no one worries where their next meal is coming from. Since 1979, we’ve been providing food for a growing network of nonprofit partners – including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers. We currently serve more than 700 partners in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

About the Role:

Responsible for supervising the transportation functions including but not limited to donor pickups, agency deliveries, food drives, mobile pantries, and special events, while maintaining vehicle cleanliness and appearance, food safety and personnel safety. Responsibilities include supervising and working alongside team members and collaborating with peer Supervisors to ensure daily work completion. The Supervisor II, Transportation will also be responsible for managing daily performance of team members and providing training to enhance the skills of the team. The Supervisor II, Transportation reports to the Senior Manager, Transportation.

What You’ll Do:

Supports Team:

  • Works with the Senior Manager, Transportation to develop and execute daily work schedules and assignments

  • Oversees accurate loading of outbound transportation, ensures no product is left on dock

  • Ensures housekeeping responsibilities are completed in a timely manner

  • Conducts job specific training for Transportation staff

  • Provides input in team & department goal setting and planning activities

  • Monitors work productivity and quality standards and ensures standards are achieved

  • Fills in for Drivers as needed

Supports Compliance, Safety, and Reporting:

  • Monitors compliance with food safety, inventory management, customer service and operational standards

  • Ensures all required reporting and documentation is properly controlled and processed

  • Follows and enforces Driver and Food Safety practices.

  • Monitors and enforces compliance with organization policies and procedures for company safety and security standards

  • Manages fleet maintenance / repair process

  • Conducts periodic fleet inspections and audits.

  • Maintains general knowledge of OSHA, DOT, Feeding America & AIB regulations.

  • Understands and applies Employee Handbook Policies consistently and fairly

Customer Service:

  • Communicates effectively with and supports internal and external customers

  • Provides first level of support in addressing employee complaints, suggestions, and concerns.

  • Initiates resolution of day-to-day customer, operational and service issues.

  • Effectively raises ongoing issues to leadership and participates in corrective action processes

  • Participates on committees or groups to improve business effectiveness as needed

What You’ll Need: Skills and Experience your resume should demonstrate:

  • Solid work history motivating, organizing, and leading a diverse work group, including ensuring adherence to safety standards and work procedures and delegating work assignments.

  • Demonstrated work experience planning and coordinating the routing schedule for each delivery truck using a dynamic routing system.

  • Proven work history in food banking, warehousing, Logistics or Transportation.

  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Transportation software.

  • A Class A Driver’s License.

  • Must be a certified or licensed forklift operator or complete certification within 90 days of hire.

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience with DOT and OSHA procedures.

  • Often required to lift and transport heavy items.

  • There will be frequent bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, and walking. Required to drive a forklift and operate warehouse equipment.

  • Evening and weekend work may be required.

  • This position would normally have routine opportunities to alter physical position or change eye focus. Lifting should not normally exceed 50 pounds.

  • May also work in cold or subzero conditions as needed.
