Perform various Care Assistant duties as directed. It is understood that Care Assistants will receive education in procedures, product applications, and techniques required as part of orientation to the Department.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Receive job assignment from Charge Nurse.

2.Adhere to procedures implement the policy on resident’s rights.

3.Comply with department and facility procedures including fire prevention and safety standards.

4.Assist in maintaining the residents’ room so that the bedside stands and closets are in order.

5.Clean all eyeglasses, dentures and and hearing aides and ensure residents dress is free from wear and tear - ensure walkers, canes, assistive devices are clean

6.Attend meetings, in-service programs and fire drills as assigned.

7.Perform light housekeeping chores as situation demands.

8.Place the utility room in order at the end of each shift as assigned.

9.Fill water pitchers.

10.Obtain resident temperatures and respirations as directed.

11.Assist residents with bedpans and urinals

12.Empty foley catheters as directed

13.Shave residents as directed

14.Weigh residents as directed

15.Provide nail care to non-diabetic residents

16.Supervise smoking of residents as assigned.

17.Assist in passing/collecting food trays as well as cut up food; open milk cartons or packages to ensure a pleasurable meal for the residents; prepare bread and record meal percentages (competency required).

18.Assist with feeding residents as directed

19.Make unoccupied/shower beds.

20.Clean up linen room at end of shift.

21.Assist in keeping linen carts stocked and covered and fill linen carts as assigned.

22.Assist with packing and labeling and inventorying deceased residents’ belongings as assigned.

23.Assist in room moves. (Resident’s personal belongings).

24.Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.

25.Must be able to effectively read, write, speak and understand the English language.

26.Is subject to exposure to infectious waste and diseases including AIDS, MDRO, VRE, C-diff, Coronaviruses and Hepatitis B viruses.

27.Must possess the ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and nonprofessional personnel. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents

28.Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Must be proficient in reading and writing and understand the spoken and written word. Must be able to apply good sound judgement while applying safety modalities and Facility policies. Must have some computer skills. Must be able to hear with corrective or adaptive devices and see adequately with corrective eyewear. Must have simple computational skills such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division and percentages. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend at knees and waist, push and pull, turn and lift a minimum of 50lbs. 

Required qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED minimum education required.
• Previous experience in an acute care/long term care setting is desirable.
• Training certification from American Health Care Association (AHCA)
