SPEECH PATHOLOGY SKILLS
8.1 Evaluations: completed within 48 hours once evaluation has been initiated, all relevant areas are thoroughly completed, appropriate goals are set relative to the patient's prior level of function, treatment plan is relevant to patient's problems identified, patient/family participates in treatment plan and in setting goals8.2 Provides effective and adequate treatment: ongoing assessment of treatment effectiveness, goals and treatment are modified as appropriate in relation to working toward goals, selects appropriate treatment interventions, utilizes specialized techniques, patient safety is addressed with follow-up recommended, recommends/obtains equipment as appropriate, provides treatment for multiple diagnoses and levels of care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the patient, interprets knowledge needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs8.3 Patient/family education and training: demonstrates a variety of teaching methods, methods are appropriate to the level of understanding, education is timely and need is identified with action taken to initiate training, content is comprehensive-all aspects of care, patient/family performance is documented, need for type and follow-up is indicated/documented8.4 Documentation: completed in a timely manner according to department policy, concise, legible, correct grammar, using medical terminology and approved abbreviations, reflects all interventions used in treatment, all ongoing assessment of treatment effectiveness, and changes in goals and treatment plan as appropriate, addresses quality improvement indicators per policy, reflects interdisciplinary teamwork and collaboration, timecards, productivity logs, billing, and other logs for departmental functions are completed in a timely manner per department policy8.5 Communication and collaboration with Team/M.D.: participates in team conferences, addresses verifications of payor guidelines/authorizations as needed, prior to scheduling/treating patient or obtaining equipment, attempts made to contact MD with patient concerns or changes in status in a timely manner, solicits feedback from MD and co-workers to improve teamwork and collaboration (or uses unsolicited feedback)8.6 Delegates to and supervises others: delegates appropriately to support staff within licensure and practice standards, precepts internship students after meeting preceptor qualifications and if requested, leads by example by providing necessary and appropriate treatment plan for support staff/student to perform treatment, provides appropriate clinical supervision and feedback to support staff/students8.7 Time management: demonstrates appropriate time management needed to meet productivity standard, initiates and completes projects within established time frame, in keeping with productivity standard, initiates adjustments in the schedules necessary to meet the department productivity standard

Qualifications:

REQUIRES:

  • Has a minimum of one year's clinical experience in Speech/Language Pathology. Has good oral and written communication skills, has good organizational skills. Is certified to practice Speech/Language Pathology.
  • Current California license as a Speech Pathologist, Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
  • Specialized assessment for the appraisal of neuropathologies as they relate to communication and swallowing function including aphasia, cognition, dysphagia and dysarthria, medical terminology, current speech pathology techniques, standards, principles and procedures, basic computer skills.
