This position is for Paraeducator Pool for the District with varying shifts and duties for the 2023-2024 school year.

POSITION SUMMARY (Paraeducator I - General Education):

The incumbent performs a variety of instructional and classroom support and student supervision duties to assist the school and teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students.

POSITION SUMMARY (Paraeducator II - Special Education Resource Room):

The incumbent performs a variety of instructional and/or support duties to assist the school and teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students with special needs (medical and/or disability) in regular education classroom settings (inclusion), one-on-one, as well as Resource Room pullout.

POSITION SUMMARY (Paraeducator II - Special Education Structured or Transitional Learning Center, Adult Transition Program):

The incumbent performs a variety of instructional, training, and/or support duties to assist Special Education teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students with severe physical and mental special needs that generally require placement in self-contained classrooms. The incumbent may also be assigned in one-on-one teacher-to-student situations when the students have needs similar to those of Structured Learning Center classrooms (e.g., physical disabilities requiring considerable support).

COMPENSATION:

Initial wage placement according to NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Retirement Plan Contributions

North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. The district contributes the employer portion; there is also a mandatory employee portion. Upon eligibility, which is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position, the employee is required to contribute 6% as their employee portion, via payroll deduction. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population.

Successful completion of an Associate's Degree or two years of post-high school education in appropriate and related areas of study. The education requirement may be substituted as the sole discretion of the District by successfully passing the written Educational Testing Service competency examination.

May be required to be certified or to become certified in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of defibrillators.

Able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks and priorities.

Able to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated.

Able to remain calm, focused and in control when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members who may be difficult and challenging to engage.

Able to follow written and verbal direction and take the initiative to seek clarity and take action when needed.

Be or become knowledgeable and supportive of classroom management and student discipline procedures.

Proficiency in the proper use of the English language to include annunciation, spelling, and syntax to assist and model proper language usage by students.

Able to organize work and set priorities for accomplishing work in a timely and effective manner.

Able to protect the confidentiality of student information consistent with FERPA requirements and good judgment.

Able to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Skill in the use of office and computer equipment and use standard office software and student information system software.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor Degree in an appropriate and related field of study.

Two years of experience that demonstrates the ability to work successfully with children in a learning environment.

Bilingual and bicultural skills in such common languages to the District as Spanish, Korean, and Vietnamese (to be determined by the specific position).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (depending on specific assignment) - Paraeducator I - General Education:

Works collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of student in the school setting.

May work with English Language Learners (ELL) by using English, and a second language if able, to assist ELL students in learning.

Provide limited first aid when necessary. Assess injury to determine whether nursing care is needed. Maintain knowledge of students that may have medical concerns to remain aware of potentially dangerous situations for their individual condition.

When communicating with students, parents, community members and other staff members exercises discretion and assures protection of student confidentiality consistent with the direction and guidance of staff, administrators, and school/district policies and procedures.

Oversees student safety, hallway supervision, etc. Takes steps to intervene when students are not in control, not in the proper location, or may be in dangerous or unsafe situations.

Provides instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.

Documents behavior and progress of students to assist teacher in assessing progress with education plans. Maintain, or assist in maintaining, student weekly progress reports.

Perform clerical duties such as making copies, operating office equipment, answering telephones, ordering materials, and record keeping.

May provide instructional assistant duties in a large classroom setting (e.g., 50 students) which includes responsibility for student management.

May provide toileting and personal hygiene related duties for students requiring such help. This includes helping wash hands, helping with toileting, helping get paint off of clothes/body, helping tie shoes, helping change wet/soiled clothes, etc.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (depending on specific assignment) - Paraeducator II - Special Education Resource Room:

Works collaboratively by assisting teachers and specialists in assessment, academic and instructional support, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students in the school setting.

May assist students with common daily tasks such as eating, dressing, toileting, to include diapering. May provide health services and assistance to include, but not limited to, changing dressings, assisting with oxygen, assisting with insulin, assisting with nebulizers or inhalers, and assisting with walkers, wheelchairs, canes, crutches.

May participate in IEP planning and assessment meetings to provide direct input and recommendations on student progress and needs.

Provides direct assistance to the teacher in such activities as:

Implementing lesson plans.

Preparing instructional support materials.

Administering assessments and assisting in grading.

Working directly with students in small groups.

Providing individualized instructional and learning assistance.

Supervising students in and outside of the classroom.

When communicating with students, parents, community members and other staff members exercises discretion and assures protection of student confidentiality consistent with the direction and guidance of staff, administrators, and school/district policies and procedures.

Oversees student safety, by such activities as recess and playground supervision, bus duty, crossing guard duty, hallway supervision, etc. Takes steps to intervene when students are not in control, not in the proper location, or may be in dangerous or unsafe situations on an as-needed basis.

Provides instructional support and tutoring to students in inclusion, pullout, and one-on-one sessions.

Documents progress of students to assist teacher in assessing progress with education plans. Maintain, or assist in maintaining, student progress reports.

Performs clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, making copies, operating office equipment, answering telephones, and record keeping.

May provide assistance in other special education and regular education settings as necessary and assigned. May provide assistance in student supervision.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (depending on specific assignment) - Paraeducator II - Special Education Structured or Transitional Learning Center, Adult Transition Program:

Works collaboratively by assisting teachers and specialists in assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, student intervention, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social and life skills growth of students. Assistance is typically provided in special education Structured Learning Center/ATP classrooms or in in regular education classrooms to students with similar one-on-one special needs.

Assist students with common daily tasks such as eating, dressing, toileting, to include diapering. May provide colostomy care including emptying colostomy bags and cleaning of the skin. May provide catheterization. May administer tube feedings and/or medication(s) as authorized by the school nurse and supervisory staff. May provide health services and assistance to include changing dressings, assisting with oxygen, assisting with insulin, assisting with nebulizers or inhalers, and assisting with walkers, wheelchairs, canes, crutches.

Teach independent living skills such as cooking, laundry, general personal hygiene and cleanliness.

Takes action, or assist in taking action, to seclude or restrain students who are at risk of harming themselves or others by following school/district-approved restraint/seclusion procedures.

May intervene with students to implement physical and/or behavioral strategies.

Assist in implementing physical and occupational therapy plans by working with students to increase range of motion, mobility, and positioning.

May escort students in one-on-one or small groups to and from recess and playground, to and from bus locations, and may be required to ride on the bus with student(s).

When communicating with students, parents, community members, and other staff members exercises discretion and assures protection of student confidentiality consistent with the direction and guidance of staff, administrators, and school/district policies and procedures.

Oversees student safety by such activities as recess and playground supervision, bus duty, crossing guard duty, hallway supervision, etc. Takes steps to intervene when students are not in control or may be in dangerous or unsafe situations.
