Ponca Nursing and Assisted Living Center is Hiring a Medical Records Clerk Near Ponca, NE

We're looking for a responsible Medical Records Clerk that can quickly learn new processes and already has great attention to detail! Previous medical experience is preferred, with an understanding of the general healthcare industry. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to work well with others and the flexibility to adapt to changing workplace conditions.

The Medical Records Clerk is an essential part of our healthcare team. This job requires regular attendance for our facility to run smoothly, and for our residents to receive the absolute best care. This person must posess a genuine interest for geriatric, chronically ill, and/or disabled persons.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all necessary medical records in a timely fashion, according to specific regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information. Understand and comply will all mandates of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Provide information about patient procedures or medical conditions to authorized personnel such as nurses and other medical professionals.
  • Preparing patient charts and gathering information and documents from patients
  • Ensuring that the medical records are organized, accurate and complete
  • Creating digital copies of paperwork and storing the records electronically
  • Filing the paperwork and reports of inpatients quickly and accurately
  • Ensure all telephone orders are confirmed with a written purchase order
  • In accordance with physicians' orders, and at the request of licensed staff, completes and coordinates requests for services within the facility and through other agencies , as appropriate, such as therapies, future appointments, etc., and arranges transportation with family's approval; prepares and copies appropriate paperwork for all transfers out of the facility, such as to physicians' offices, clinics, hospitals, home, etc
  • Assists in auditing new admission charts, medication sheets, treatment sheets, and ADL sheets for completion and accuracy; notifies staff person responsible for deficiencies; informs Health Information department of all deficiencies
  • Transferring data into the facility’s main system database
  • Processing the records for admitting and discharging patients
  • Promotes a courteous and helpful atmosphere for staff, residents, family, and medical providers in greeting visitors and answering unit phone calls; refers calls to the appropriate staff, takes accurate messages
  • Prepares appropriate paperwork for lab requests; when lab and x-ray reports are received, c notifies primary nurse immediately and, if requested, contacts physician either by phone or fax
  • Updates daily census sheets and resident location with admissions, discharges and room transfers
  • Maintains open communications with the Lead Nurse and other supervisory staff, as assigned
  • Oversees quality assurance relative to the medical record review
  • Order and stock office supplies, and be prepared to assist senior staff with any clerical tasks they may need assistance with.
  • Manage office inventory and supply levels; maintain all appropriate logs.
  • Maintains adequate supply of forms, monitors, maintains and obtains service, when appropriate, for copy machine and fax machine
  • Ensure all purchase orders are properly prepared, signed and submitted as required in procurement policies and procedures
  • Effectively communicate with physicians, nursing staff, and allied health personnel
  • Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc
  • Accurately audit and complete ongoing reviews of all patients' clinical records to ensure documentation and performance compliance
  • Understand and apply LTC payment systems, including Medicare
  • Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients
  • Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment

  • Prepares appropriate paperwork for lab requests; when lab and x-ray reports are received, c notifies primary nurse immediately and, if requested, contacts physician either by phone or fax.
  • Keeps an accurate log of appointments, coordinating with the driver
  • Sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours
  • Participates in "in-service" education and training
  • Performs all other duties as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $29.00 per hour
