Facilities Management MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

FULL TIME TEMP TO PERM

Candidates will be staffed through Ad-Vance Talent Solutions, a business partner of Polk County, during the probationary period before transition to County employment.

PG–P15 ($20.14 (plus $1.48 jail incentive)

Shift: Monday – Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (40 hours/week)
Location: 2150 Marshall Edwards Drive, Bartow, FL 33830

Jail Incentive - The candidate chosen for the position will also be working at the Central County Jail and will receive a $1.48 per hour incentive pay.

Must have the physical, developmental and mental ability to perform job tasks, work efforts, responsibilities and duties of the job illustrated below:

MAJOR FUNCTION

Under direction, operates and maintains building automation systems and performs general and preventive maintenance and repairs in the skilled and semi-skilled trades, i.e., plumbing, masonry, carpentry, flooring, irrigation, electrical, mechanical and air conditioning systems and equipment.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Programs, operates and maintains building climate systems to provide environmental comfort while ensuring cost and energy efficiency. Performs general/preventive maintenance, service and repairs, in a multi-trade environment, on facilities, buildings and automated systems, i.e., plumbing, masonry, carpentry, flooring, irrigation, electrical, mechanical and air conditioning systems and equipment. Assists with complex installation, maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of trade specific work in support of the operation of facilities, buildings and building systems. Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or hazardous conditions, i.e., fallen debris, spills, broken windows, broken locks. Participates in work-site safety set-up, i.e., preps work areas; sets barricades and cones; conducts traffic control in accordance with uniform work zone safety standards, flags traffic. Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of and ability to utilize materials, methods tools and practices used in general maintenance work. Ability to interpret, understand and follow a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, schematic or schedule form. Ability to lead and carry out assignments with minimal instructions, adhering to prescribed routines and practices. Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with management and coworkers, County and Constitutional employees and the general public.

Knowledge of computer operations and various computer software programs, as well as general office skills. Ability to operate various vehicles, trucks, light construction equipment and machinery and other gasoline and diesel driven motors, including, but not limited to: service trucks, forklifts, high lifts, etc. Knowledge, manipulative skill and eye-hand coordination required in the operation of standard hand tools, machines, power equipment and test equipment. Knowledge of all safety precautions.

Ability to utilize a wide variety of manual, gas and electric powered hand tools, including, but not limited to: hammers, shovels, rakes, screw drivers, wrenches, digging bars, chainsaws, chemical sprayers, leaf blowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, and edgers. Physical ability to perform: maximum lifting, push, pull and/or lift up to forty five (45) pounds; see, ambulate independently, drive, climb, bend, stoop, sit and stand.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited high school or acceptable equivalency diploma (GED) with a minimum of five (5) years in general trades maintenance work. Completion of a related course of study from an accredited technical or trade school may be substituted for one year of required experience.

Must possess or obtain a Universal Refrigeration Certification as required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Such certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment in this position. Failure to obtain certification may result in termination of employment.

Must have a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment.

A comparable amount of training and related experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Must be able to pass a national background check, mandated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, to include on-line security training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have home or cell telephone as employee is subject to emergency callout and standby and must be available to respond and work during an emergency situation. Must have transportation to/from work.

This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
