Position SummaryThe Delivery Driver position is primarily responsible for driving the delivery vehicle over established routes to deliver products or render services.
Principal Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position, but are not meant to be all inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. The duties identified below with an “*” have been determined to be essential functions of the position.
  • Drive delivery vehicle to deliver such items as beverages, pizza, pasta and sandwiches to customers.
  • Collect money from customers and makes change.
  • Write up customer order.
  • Informs regular customers of new products or services and provides promotion materials to customers.
  • Collects or picks up requested merchandise or products.
  • Places stock on shelves or racks in preparation for delivery to customers.
  • Loads delivery vehicle.
  • Maintains vehicle to meet desired level of safety and cleanliness.
  • Other miscellaneous activities that might be assigned but a member of management.
Formal EducationRequires the equivalent completion of 8th grade in school in order to be able to:
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form; to solve simple problems requiring standardized solutions.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions; to compute ratio, rate and percent; to perform arithmetic operations involving all American monetary units.
  • Recognize words and word meanings commonly found in procedural instructions business reports and food and non-food product labels, and restaurant menus.
  • Construct and write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, series of numbers, names and addresses; and
To speak simple sentences, using normal word order and present and past tenses such as used to instruct employees in procedures and to maintain friendly conversations with customers.
Formal ExperienceNo previous experience is required for this position.
Licenses/CertificatesRequires a valid state Driver’s License.
Requires current motor vehicle insurance coverage, with specified limits, on personal vehicle for delivery.
The position may require a Food Handler’s permit dependent upon the laws of the county in which the restaurant is located.
Machines, Tools, Equipment And Work AidsBags, baskets, bins, boxes, counters, handtruck, motor vehicle, order forms, pushcarts, sales checks and weight scales.
Working ConditionsThe worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, which afford no effective protection from the weather. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather, which may cause marked bodily discomfort.
Environmental HazardsThe position is not subject to any significant environmental hazards.
Physical Demands – StrengthThe Delivery Driver is required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time between deliveries.
Physical/Sensory Demands
  • Reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, handling, fingering, feeling, lifting, carrying standing, walking, pushing and pulling is required frequently in delivery of products and services.
  • No special hearing, smelling or tasting requirements are associated with the position.
  • Visual requirements associated with the duties of this position include: near and far vision; depth perception; visual accommodation, and field of vision in order to drive the delivery vehicle and read the information on the delivery orders and on the material being delivered.
Supervision And GuidanceThe position does not supervise or provide guidance to other employees.
Interpersonal ContactsRegular internal contacts with staff employees to give and exchange information.
Regular external contacts with customers that require understandable and clear communications to transmit and receive information.
Occasional external contact with guests/customers that requires friendly, pleasant, enthusiastic, understandable and clear communications to transmit and receive information and to maximize the customer’s positive feeling about their dining experience.
