Montgomery County Government is Hiring an EMS Educator (Fire and Rescue Training Academy), Grade 25 Near Gaithersburg, MD

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) is seeking an EMS Educator to manage all aspects of the Paramedic Continuing Education Program at the Public Safety Training Academy (PSTA). This position requires substantial experience as a paramedic and educator, as well as the ability to have extensive coordination and interaction amongst PSTA staff, MCFRS instructors, and over 400 career and volunteer paramedics within the Department.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the position include:

  • Develop and implement content that meets National, State & Local ALS provider criteria for continuing education.
  • Provide training to existing ALS instructors in a large variety of topics related to ALS pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Coordinate with management, instructors, students and other stakeholders outside of the PSTA (EMS Medical Director, EMIHS, MCFRS Operations, etc.)
  • Fulfill ALS educational program administrative requirements
  • Manage all aspects of ALS recertification with MIEMSS
  • Collect and maintain records in accordance with local, state and national certification and accreditation guidelines.
  • Evaluate both student & instructor performance using a variety of evaluation tools & feedback methodologies.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of paramedic remediation as needed

We are seeking candidates with the following:

  • Advanced attention to detail. This position strongly relies on the incumbent’s skills and abilities in management and organization of a large volume of information from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate integrity, security and confidentiality required to ensure appropriate management of student training and recertification.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students & instructors in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of Fire/Rescue personnel at all levels from Recruit to Fire Chief.
  • Independence and autonomy. Incumbent is expected to self-initiate work and work with limited supervision.
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to work very closely with the ALS training team and PSTA staff.
  • Proficient in all forms of communication.
  • Proficient computer skills to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, a medical exam, and a drug screening.

Minimum Qualifications


Education
: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree, plus successful completion of an EMS Academy-approved EMS instructor course.

Experience: Three (3) years directly related EMS experience plus three (3) years of experience teaching EMS related courses

License: National Registered EMT- Paramedic and Maryland Paramedic licensure

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on the eligible list with a rating of Qualified and may be eligible for interview.

Candidates with the following experience will be considered for an interview.

  • College-level teaching, preferably in paramedicine or related field
  • Over 5 years as a 911-based ALS care provider
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Paramedicine, Emergency Services or other related field
  • Over 3 years of program management in a field related to emergency services
  • 2 years of experience in high level educational setting related to emergency services
