Job Description
Chaplain Residents function as a member of the spiritual care team to provide emotional/spiritual support to person(s) in crisis, experiencing trauma, and at end of life. In addition, Chaplain Residents provide emotional/spiritual support for staff within and across the Children's Healthcare system. The one (1) year chaplain resident program is designed to equip chaplain residents with practical and interpersonal skills for using research, theology, behavioral sciences, and adult education to enhance their self-awareness, understanding of spiritual care, and their practice as a care responder.
Chaplain Residents are placed at Egleston Hospital, where they have a unique opportunity to explore spiritual care in a pediatric hospital, with an emphasis on family dynamics, systems theory, and the holistic development of children.
Specialty care areas include:
•Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center
•Emergency Department
•Heart Center
•Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
•Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
•Solid Organ Transplant
•Technology-Dependent Intensive Care Unit (TICU)
Experience
  • A minimum of 1 year working with people of diverse religious and cultural backgrounds
  • A minimum of one unit of CPE accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education
Preferred Qualifications
  • Affiliation with recognized religious or spiritual group to seek endorsement, commissioning, and/or ordination
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in group learning and adult education
  • Experience in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to engage interpersonal relationships within spiritual care department and across the hospital system
  • Experience with children and families
Education
  • Master's degree in Divinity or related field
Certification Summary
  • No professional certifications required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Functional knowledge of religious principles and practices of the major faiths
  • Excellent critical thinking skills (ability to define problems, problem solve, implement developments, and measure success)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Theological and Behavioral Science understanding of human illness and suffering in a pediatric context
  • Awareness of cultural and religious understandings of illness and health
  • Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed
Job Responsibilities
  • Under direct supervisor Clinical Pastoral Educator.
  • Provide direct spiritual care for patients, their families, and staff via spiritual assessment.
  • Provide chaplain day-duty coverage and weekend day coverage (as scheduled).
  • Perform administrative tasks including EPIC documentation, weekly & monthly stats, and bereavement documentation.
  • Organize and conduct religious worship services to address identified spiritual holidays, grief needs, and other services as deemed appropriate.
  • Participate in all aspects of the educational components of the Clinical Pastoral Education program according to the 2020 Accreditation Standards for the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education.
  • Work with the interdisciplinary team in assessing the holistic care needs of the patient and family while addressing age-appropriate and developmental-specific needs.
