Our Philosophy

Phoenix Charter Academy's mission is to challenge young people in our area with an academically rigorous and individually tailored curriculum. Phoenix scholars will have the support, resources and training needed to succeed academically in high school and college, and become economically secure in their future. Phoenix Charter Academy is named after a mythological figure of strength, healing and renewal.

Phoenix schools challenge resilient, disconnected young people with rigorous academics and relentless supports, so they take ownership of their futures and succeed in high school, college, and as self-sufficient adults.

At Phoenix we do not just accept difference - we celebrate it, support it, and thrive on it for the benefit of our scholars and the communities we serve. We believe difference makes us stronger. Phoenix Charter Academy is an equal opportunity employer and as such, we do not discriminate against any team member or candidate because of race, creed, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, disability, age, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy, or any other basis protected by federal, state or local law. Phoenix Charter Academy is committed to making any reasonable accommodation necessary to support an individual's employment.

About Our School

Phoenix Charter Academy Chelsea is a tuition- free, college-preparatory public high school in Chelsea, Massachusetts. A regional high school, Phoenix Chelsea serves over 200 students, enrolling students ages 14-21, hailing from Chelsea, Everett, Revere, Lynn, and Boston.

Phoenix Chelsea’s student body is diverse, with 85% of students identifying as Hispanic and 11% as African American. Phoenix Chelsea is specifically designed to serve the most vulnerable, disconnected students and has had great success in meeting their needs both academically and social-emotionally, preparing students to be successful beyond high school. By most disconnected we mean the young people who are: the most pushed out of the traditional educational system, have the least access to educational pathways and options, and are the most off-track academically. As a result, when a Phoenix student graduates, they have demonstrated tremendous perseverance and resilience.

Students come to Phoenix Chelsea facing many unique challenges: 48% are 19 or older, 32% are formerly truant, 16% are former dropouts, 25% have been court involved, 7% are pregnant or parenting, 66% are English Language Learners and 13% are on IEP/504 learning plans. Additionally, most of Phoenix Chelsea’s students come from low-income households, and annually our free or reduced lunch rate is at or above 90%.
