Description
The Outreach Educator - PT will be a key member of the Museum's educational program team and will report to the Outreach Programs Manager. They are responsible for leading hands-on, interactive classroom programs, family science nights, and large group auditorium shows for students of all ages at the Museum as well as in schools and other locations across the DFW community. As part of the Learning Department, the Outreach Educator ensures that museum programs are exciting and fulfill the brand promise of inspiring minds through nature and science.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches outreach programs for groups of students in PreK-12th grade.
  • Program responsibilities to include interactive Learning Labs (classroom programs), Family Science Nights and Auditorium Style Demos.
  • Experience in engaging audiences of children and adults in a large auditorium show format preferred.
  • Ability to work a variable programming schedule that includes daytime, evening, weekend and some holiday hours.
  • Timely communications with point of contact regarding program details before scheduled program.
  • Report programming information as required by Outreach Programs Manager.
  • Implement age appropriate curriculum for Discovery Camps and community events as assigned by Outreach Programs Manager.
  • Supervise students during outreach programming and seasonal Discovery Camps.
  • Cooperate and support fellow colleague's integration and learning of programming.
  • Provide support for programming and special events at the Perot Museum and at community partner organizations.
  • Maintain spaces, equipment and supplies related to school programming.
  • Safely drive Perot Museum vehicles to and from outreach programs.
  • Ability to use a personal vehicle for programs, when Museum vehicles are not available.
  • Demonstrate safe science while conducting science programs and auditorium demos.
  • Confidence and comfort when handling flammable and cryogenic chemicals, laboratory equipment and other materials as science programs and auditorium demos require.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and curiosity about science and sharing that passion with audiences of all ages.
  • Follow the daily programming schedule.
  • Attend scheduled meetings.
  • Participate in new program onboarding and trainings to effectively facilitate learning.
  • Collaborate with other teams to develop creative and innovative program curriculum as assigned by Outreach Programs Manager.
  • Stay up to date with state and national science standards and incorporate into programming where appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Outreach Programs Manager.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education -
  • Bachelor degree in Science, Education, or Theater OR enrolled in an accredited University working toward a degree in Science , Education or Theater
Experience -
  • 1-2 years of experience teaching content in a school, museum, nature center, zoo or other informal setting
  • Must have a driver's license and insurance that meets the state minimum standards for coverage. Ability to use a personal vehicle for programs when museum vehicles are not available is required.
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate age-appropriate science content in both informal and formal settings.
  • Engaging small and large audiences in a positive manner.
  • Ability to learn new program materials and demonstrations and able to work in a team environment.
  • Highly motivated, energetic and creative individual.
  • Effective time management, interpersonal skills, and ability to interface with all levels
  • Self-starter, effective communicator, strong at multitasking, highly organized and dependable
  • Availability to work afternoon, evening and weekend hours is required.
  • Availability to work weekday mornings and during school breaks as needed is preferred.
Preferred Experience:
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience with public speaking and presentations in front of large audiences.
  • Theater or improv experience.
