Job Summary:

The Host Supervisor consistently provides prompt, courteous service by greeting all guests and oversees dining room activities. Interact with guests in a professional and friendly manner, working as a team to ensure guest satisfaction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Host team at The Bench to ensure they are following PBC Standards and Values.
  • Ensure coverage of the entrance and host stand, greeting arriving guests and thanking those that are leaving.
  • Assist with special requests such as cake orders and special billing requests by guests.
  • Give coaching and feedback (both constructive and positive) to the Host team.
  • Establish and conduct Host world class service training quarterly in an effort to keep improving.
  • Ensure world class service and alternative options to all diners, coach the team on world class service.
  • Be actively involved with management in the hiring process of new Bench Hosts.
  • Train Host team on SMS future reservations and linking to guest folio’s.
  • Train Host team to be proficient in Zomato, table management system, ensure they are assigning tables daily.
  • Ensure Host team is trained on a seating plan each day / meal period to provide world class service.
  • Check schedule and staffing levels, generate floor plan for lunch and dinner.
  • Check all menus for cleanliness and accuracy, ability to print as needed for the Host team.
  • Answer the telephone, take reservations and give directions to restaurant.
  • Ensure Host team is following best practice for waitlist, table assignment, tip pool and seating patterns.
  • Resolve guest problems whenever possible and involve manager when necessary.
  • Complete all tasks as assigned or directed by Bench Managers.
  • Be knowledgeable on all Bench menus and wine list; ability to ring in to go orders.
  • Review future reservations and review peak periods with management.
  • Be able to receive and book reservations via Pebble Beach Company email.
  • Be proficient to sell and quote guests private communal, Stanton and fire table parties.
  • Maintain waiting list, select table and escort guests to the table.
  • Take the guests' food and drink orders when business necessitates.
  • Monitor alcohol consumption and behavior of guests alerting a manager of any intoxicated guests.
  • Observe guests' progress and respond in a timely way to their needs.
  • Clean up spills immediately and general up keeping of the host and arrival area.
  • Set-up and break down special events, to include moving tables, chairs and other furniture as necessary.
  • Remove used dishes and maintain tables during meal by replacing utensils as necessary and refolding napkins.
  • Follow Pebble Beach Company cash handling policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all Pebble Beach Company safety, health and general policies and procedures.

Absolutely Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A desire to develop, train and maintain best practices with Host team.
  • Possesses speed, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Courtesy and anticipation of guests needs are essential.
  • Ability to oversee the efficient seating and scheduling daily.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work as a team with entire floor staff and kitchen staff ensuring timely, efficient service.
  • Ability to work in high pressure environment, handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of point of sale system helpful.
