Gravure Ink, a division of Patrick Industries, is a major manufacturer and supplier of decorative and textured printed vinyl’s and papers to different industries throughout the United States and has grown their operation to La Porte, Indiana to expand printing operations! Due to the expansion Gravure Ink is hiring for a Continuous Improvement/EHS Specialist.

The Continuous Improvement Specialist will be responsible for using Lean Six Sigma principles to drive continuous improvement and EHS initiatives and operational excellence. This role is involved in planning, scheduling, developing and implementing various projects (such as Kaizen, Lockout, Chemical safety, etc.) on the production floor of a manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, waste removal, and cost reduction
  • Plan, facilitate, and execute continuous improvement events using Lean Six Sigma tools
  • Teach, lead, and coach cross-functional teams on Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology
  • Work to continuously improve processes both on the production floor as well as transactional by collaborating with multiple functions such as logistics
  • Partner with EHS Director to develop and rollout required programs to achieve compliance
  • Manage day to day EHS activities, including environmental programs (waste, air, etc.)
  • Develop and implement annual and new hire training (EHS and CI)
  • Clearly define program objectives and scope
  • Evaluate and prioritize potential improvements based on gains and required effort
  • Secure employee commitment (ex: process managers) for proactive change management
  • Establish a clear and well-articulated implementation plan
  • Establish criteria for the project’s success and preparing a sound statement of constraints/limiting factors
  • Resolve technical problems such as formulation, equipment, product, interpretation of regulations, and resource availability
  • Clearly define methodology
  • Accurately analyze options including impact and feasibility
  • Specify obstacles and ways to overcome them through continuous improvement
  • Regularly monitor the implementation of solutions to achieve objectives and expected benefits

Qualifications And Skills

  • Undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Management or related field preferred but Minimum of 5 years’ Continuous Improvement experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Previous Environmental Health and Safety experience strongly preferred
  • Must be willing to travel overnight (Up to 30%)
  • Knowledge of 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and Value Propositions
  • Successful demonstration of applying continuous process improvement mindset that drives improved efficiencies and cost reduction while placing a premium on safety and quality.
  • Excellent accountability and follow-through skills
  • Strong tact and diplomacy; ability to work effectively with staff on all levels
  • A high level of personal integrity (self-esteem, confidence, honesty, and respect) are necessary qualities
  • Self-motivated to work independently in a busy environment with changing priorities and the ability to adapt
  • Possess results-driven mentality with excellent self-management and organizational skills.
  • High level of technical, critical thinking, problem solving and analytical reasoning skills.
  • Must communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of external professionals and in-house staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple, unrelated tasks in an organized manner with attention to detail and thoroughness while balancing changing priorities and challenges.
