Summary: The Electromagnetic Protection (EMP) Specialist evaluates all EMP-related issues during a Mission Assurance Vulnerability Assessment providing recommendations to mitigate or eliminate identified vulnerabilities in support of Defense Threat Reduction Agency. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Includes the following: * Responsibilities include EMP analysis that applies across all segments of site operations for a given mission tailored to the specific and local threats. * Provide analysis on the broad radio frequency (RF) spectrum, where a threat could be directed through any of the following electromagnetic (EM) pathways to affect human or automated information-based processes: * Electrical power systems, building, lightning, and equipment grounding to include tempest accreditation * Adequately secured and non-secured communications systems * Computer-based information systems * Ability to address EM protection as it applies across a broad RF spectrum from threats from external or internal sources that could potentially affect human or automated information- based processes. * Ability to develop plausible threat scenarios and provide coherent reports on vulnerabilities and mitigation measures to include engineering design reviews. * Understanding of EMP mitigation measures, technologies, and applicable U.S. government standards for adequacy to protect critical assets and primary gathering buildings. * Capability to prepare and present informational material regarding EMP effects * Possesses an understanding of DoD guidelines on EMP defense and associated security, safety, and reliability programs. * Knowledge of health effects, CBRN/hazmat detection, identification sampling, Emergency Response and Consequence Management. * Identifying probably natural hazards that could affect the mission survivability of mission critical facilities and assets. * Experience with personal protective equipment/facility/infrastructure protection and hazard plume modeling * Provide inputs to Assessment Team Reports based upon vulnerabilities observed during the assessments. SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY This position will not have supervisory authority. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Top SECRET preferred * Secret Required * PhD or Master's degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering * Officer/Senior Enlisted, or comparable civilian experience * Minimum 10 years of experience with a focus on Electromagnetic Effects. * Competency in Electromagnetic Phenomenology and associated Technologies KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Expert in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and high Explosives (CBRNE) weapons effects * Knowledge of risk management concepts employed by DoD or Department of Homeland Security. * Experience in an EMP position within DoD * Experience conducting vulnerability assessments * Ability to effectively communicate via written and oral means. * Ability to write well understood assessment reports. * Ability to handle multiple tasks with little to no supervision. * The ability to pass a federal background check and a drug screen WORK ENVIRONMENT The duties of this position are primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment at Fort Belvoir, VA.
