Background Check Required

Scope : Client is looking for a team-oriented hardware engineer to create industry leading Cloud Networking Ethernet switches. Candidate will work in the Power Systems Engineering group that handles all custom power supply design for the chassis of their networking products. Power Supplies can range from 100 Watts to 3KW, system could have a bunch of power supplies involved, so there could be several different custom designs of power supplies connected in one chain. Client is NOT looking for pure R&D folks that have worked in solely an OEM/ODM environment. Client is looking for longer term assignments too please note that most roles in Power Supply require a longer life cycle, so short stints of < 1 year on a contract would not really give the candidate adequate exposure to the power supply design challenges.

Client wants to emphasize that candidates know all design aspects, including evaluating/reviewing schematics, performing the root cause analysis, and knowing how to make the actual changes. Many candidates can execute design, but the development aspect of the job requires that candidates understand all of what goes into power supply, helping to define the requirements and protocols and oversee the design, coordinating this with vendors. Ideal candidate will have helped produce the specifications to work with the OEM vendor, review the sample provided, evaluate, and perform root cause analysis, identify the weak links, and recommend design changes, etc.

Client does a lot of load sharing across the chassis, but the biggest individual module will be no more than 1kW or so. Candidate will get an opportunity to work with some of the best engineering and technical leaders in the industry to drive the design and implementation of multi-KW AC/DC and DC/DC chassis power systems, help with the documentation and characterization of these power supplies, and report bugs, monitor performance, communicate with vendors, etc. Could be up to 10 or 20 modules on the board, each one is several KW.

Prefers someone with anywhere from 5-15 years experience developing front end power supply AC/DC and DC/DC. Minimally BS EE and ideally MS EE

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • As a part of the project team, define, develop , and qualify ACDC and DCDC power supplies to meet product & market requirements
  • Hands-on experience with power electronics will need to spend time in lab
  • Familiarity with dual grid and redundant AC or DC system power
  • Good understanding of analog/power circuit design and qualification
  • Ability to write clear and effective technical reports, present and communicate technical issues to a broad range of audiences including other power teams, software engineers, or non-technical people.
  • Monitor the performance of power supply vendors during development Ability to work with vendors engineering team abroad and lead the project from concept to production.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical and compliance teams to ensure that the power distribution systems in products meet all required national and international regulatory standards. Consult with the system and diagnostic engineers on best practices for testing for compliance. Review the set of specifications for the custom power supply, setting up weekly calls with the vendors, characterizing and debug the power supply in the lab, report the performance to the OEM, etc.

Requirements:

  • BS, MS Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of AC-DC & DC-DC design issues, system level power distribution, and industry best practices
  • Experience with system power supplies ranging in size from 400 Watts to 3000 Watts with both AC and DC input power
  • Understanding of the design issues of large modular systems with total power such as 20 kW.
  • Excellent communicator of requirements, critical path, and schedules.
  • Familiarity with new custom product development
