Osborne Association Inc is Hiring a Housing Coordinator Near Bronx, NY

Description

Osborne is opening its first transitional housing and reentry program, The Fulton Community Reentry Center (Fulton). Fulton will provide 140 beds of transitional reentry housing to formerly incarcerated men who would otherwise be homeless after discharge from a correctional facility. Fulton will also provide onsite reentry services, including case management, benefits enrollment, employment, health, and substance use disorder treatment. The facility operates 365 days on a 24-hour basis daily, including evening and weekend hours (some positions will require non-traditional hours). 

We are seeking a full-time Housing Coordinator. The Housing Coordinator's responsibility is collaborating with Housing Specialist and Program Manager to secure permanent housing for clients. This position is in charge of finding safe, affordable housing for large groups of people while supervising staff, dealing with governmental agencies, creating growth plans, and setting budgets. The Housing Coordinator reports to the Director of Fulton Community Reentry Center.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provides Program information to clients and owners about rental assistance program benefits and requirements.
  • Assists individual clients and/or property owners in completing forms; Provides residents, tenants, and landlords with information through regularly scheduled briefing
  • Assembles information for the completion of necessary forms and the preparation of reports.
  • Enters and retrieves data daily and monitors a database.
  • Reviews screened clients: housing assessment and provides an orientation to clients describing housing services (Voucher Programs: CityFheps, SOTA, Section 8, EHV, 2010E, etc.)
  • Initiates input into the development of a client-service plan and setting goals for independent living and securing housing
  • Advocates on behalf of clients to obtain permanent housing; coordinates all necessary services, including utility connections and moving arrangements
  • Supervises client's participation in the program services and documents all services provided for the client chart
  • Provides supportive counseling to the client through crisis intervention, individual counseling, group support, and case management
  • Shares observations and assessments of individual clients with appropriate affiliate professionals
  • Maintains contact with outside agencies to refer or obtain additional client services
  • Escorts clients to referred programs and apartment viewings when necessary
  • Prepares reports to document the professional work process
  • Maintains up-to-date on all housing provisions and vouchers
  • Shares observations and assessments of individual clients with appropriate affiliate professionals.
  • Conducts orientation informational trainings, and train staff, when necessary, on updated housing database.
  • All other duties are as assigned or deemed necessary.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred but may be substituted with an Associate's degree or High School Diploma and a Real Estate License.

Experience

  • Prior experiences using HOME, CAPS, etc. databases
  • Prior experience in housing counseling, real estate, accounting, or property management a plus.
  • A Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • One year of case management or relevant work experience is preferred.

Additional Skills

  • Must have the flexibility to work some evenings and occasional weekends as needed.
  • Excellent and demonstrated writing ability.
  • Knowledge of CARES, MS Word, Excel, and database management skills. Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, resolve conflicts and listen.
  • Able to deal calmly in crisis situations and handle multiple tasks effectively under pressure.
  • Effective at working collaboratively well with diverse groups.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and efficient. Maturity, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Engaging personality and detailed orientated skills are essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills are necessary.
