The emphasis of this position is diagnostic imaging physics and Radiation Safety in medical imaging; including equipment evaluations and quality assurance; radiation dose optimization and image quality; education of technologists, allied health personnel, and physicians; interpret, ensure compliance, and integrate radiation safety regulations and best practice standards in consult with the Radiation Safety Officer. Knowledge, familiarity, and experience with use of physicist evaluations of diagnostic imaging equipment used in Mammography, CT, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, Fluoroscopy (including CV/IR), and general radiology, as well as radiation measurement instrumentation is expected.

Experience with radiation shield design for diagnostic imaging including SPECT and PET-CT is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment evaluations and annual medical physics surveys for radiographic equipment including fluoroscopic, cone-beam CT, breast imaging, stereotactic breast biopsy, ultrasound, CT, MRI, SPECT, PET-CT, and SPECT-CT imaging systems that meet accreditation and regulatory requirements (MQSA, ACR, TJC, and Oregon and Washington regulatory authorities).
  • Actively support Regional Radiation Safety Program and Radiation Safety Committee, CT protocol optimization, and MR device safety efforts.
  • Oversee use of dose monitoring software (DoseWatch), CT dose reporting thresholds and CT dose optimization, perform skin dose estimates for CV/IR procedures.
  • Provide QA/QC support and equipment evaluations for kVp x-ray imaging systems used in Radiation Therapy.
  • Interact with physicians in a variety of specialties that utilize fluoroscopy.
  • Participate in radiation safety training for physicians, allied health personnel, and others.
  • Support Radioactive Materials License and all aspects of Radiation Safety and function as the radiation safety expert for Imaging Services as well as physicians, surgeons, ORs and other departments using ionizing radiation.
  • Consult with regional facilities services for construction projects, perform shielding calculations and on-site evaluations and surveys, consult with planners, architects, and project managers.
  • Support radiotherapy treatments in Nuclear Medicine (I-131, Lu 177 Lutathera and Pluvicto, Y-90 micro-sphere)
