About the Practice and their Mission

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center seeks an experienced Certified Medical Dosimetrist to join our well-established, physician-led, and managed group practice in Baton Rouge, LA.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center (MBPCC) is a freestanding, not-for-profit oncology practice based in the capital city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Treating approximately 2,200 patients annually, MBPCC supports the leading radiation oncology practice in the state across its 10 locations in southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi.

This progressive Center has 12 radiation oncologists, 11 medical physicists, 4 medical physics residents, and 8 medical dosimetrists. MBPCC provides state-of-the-art radiation therapy across its network, including 8 Elekta Infinity or VersaHD linear accelerators, 1 Varian 21iX, and 1 Gamma Knife ICON. An Elekta Unity MRI-Linac system for adaptive radiotherapy is currently installed and expected to start treating patients in November 2023. Other equipment includes GE Discovery CT-PET scanners, 4D motion management, deep inspiration breath hold programs, enterprise-level Philips Pinnacle treatment planning system, enterprise-level MOSAIQ record, and verify system, Mobius3D/FX, and Mim Maestro. Research equipment includes Monaco research planning system and extensive dosimetry laboratories at MBPCC.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Medical Radiation Physicist and following the dose prescription specified by the Radiation Oncologist, plans and calculates a radiation treatment plan for each patient presented utilizing CT-Simulation, PET, MRI, and portal images. The treatment plan created results in the delivery of the prescribed radiation dose to a defined tumor volume for both external beam and brachytherapy procedure (if applicable).

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of Hospital or College Affiliated Medical Dosimetry School.
  • CMD Required
  • CPR; RTT, LA State Licensure (LRT) Desirable.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience in computer software related to radiation therapy.
  • Working knowledge of radiation safety, and must be able to read and interpret CT scans, radiographs, computer printouts, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to physically enter data into a radiation therapy treatment planning computer.
  • Ability to visually distinguish different anatomical structures, tissue densities, and isodose lines on a computer screen.
  • Mental ability to accurately manipulate equations related to the delivery of radiation therapy treatments.
