ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDER – INPATIENT
General Summary:
Under physician supervision, the advanced practice provider is responsible for the comprehensive medical management of assigned inpatients in the hospital setting. The advanced practice provider is expected to exercise prudent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of care and seek appropriate collaboration as necessary.

Job Requirements
Education: Graduate of an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program
Experience: Experience in oncology/hematology
Other: Holds current CPR card for Health Professionals
Credentialed per CHCWM policies and procedures
Licensed in the State of Michigan
Ability to interact effectively and pleasantly with a diverse population. Ability to review detailed data and make prompt judgments based on that data. Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines, interruptions and high work volume. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computers and their applications to the related field. Requires full range of body motion including handling patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Working knowledge of computers and their applications to the related field. 50% of time sitting, 50% walking/moving, able to transport items weighing less than 20 pounds 5% of the time.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Education/Experience
Hospitalist/In-patient experience preferred
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Obtains comprehensive histories and physical examinations that reflect the acuity and presenting complaint of the patient. This includes daily rounding, admission and discharges that include comprehensive progress notes that reflect the acuity and priority needs of patients.
  • Coordinates and deliver comprehensive medical care, in collaboration with attending physicians, including, writing orders/prescriptions for standard medications, ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiographic studies, and seeking consultation as needed for optimal patient outcomes. This includes managing daily changes in patient’s status that requires more immediate resolutions.
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner with supervising physician(s) as needed for continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes. Maintains communication with interdisciplinary teams including office services, hospital support services as well as additional physician (and physician teams) that may be also caring for the patient. Acts as a resource and responds to calls, in-house emergencies in a professional and timely manner.
  • Serves as a patient advocate and provides patient education and/or referrals for optimal outcome and continuity of care.
  • Works collaboratively with others across team lines by demonstrating accountability as a team member.
  • Performs other tasks, procedures, and/or duties within his/her scope of practice as assigned.
This employee has access to medical records daily. The parts of the medical record s/he needs to reference to perform his/her job are as follows: Face Sheet Section, Physician Correspondence, Radiology, Pathology, Labs, Hospitalization, History and Physical, Home Health (Encounter Forms), Chemotherapy Flow Sheet (Treatment Section), Dictation, Lab Information System, Pharmacy Information System, Entire Chart/Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Work Environment
The work environment of mid-level provider is typically challenging and fast-paced. The position requires an affable and flexible manner to adapt to ever-changing priorities. Providers will be exposure to a variety of attitudes, personalities, and patient/family reactions to life-threatening illness. Possible exposure to contagious disease, hazardous materials, and/or radiation may occur.
