Olu's is Hiring a Direct Support Professional (Full Time) Near Minneapolis, MN
Under supervision, Direct Support Professionals (DSP) provide services to adults with Developmental Disabilities, Mental Illness, and/or Chemical Dependency in the residents' home, ensuring that programs are implemented properly to meet the individual goals of residents. The incumbent will carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and procedures, applicable to federal, state, local standards, guidelines, and regulations as directed by the House Supervisor.
Provide personalized assistance to individuals with disabilities or illness who require help with personal care and activities of daily living support (e.g., feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation). May also provide help with tasks such as preparing meals, doing light housekeeping, and doing laundry. Work is performed in various settings depending on the needs of the care recipient and may include locations such as their home, place of work, out in the community, or at a daytime nonresidential facility.
Requirements
Advocacy
-Assist residents with achieving personal goals; work on behalf of residents to overcome barriers.
-Help residents participate in activities of their choice; respects resident's personal beliefs, choices, and interests.
Health Maintenance
-Provide care and assistance to promote good health; help residents receive medical care and communicates with medical professionals.
-Administer medications according to physicians' instructions; records information regarding health events, conditions, and status.
-Provide CPR/First Aid and seek emergency medical care when needed.
Personal Care
-Help residents with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, and toileting.
-Assist residents with their mobility including lifting them from a seated or lying down position, helping them walk and maintain stability.
Living Skills Development
-Help residents develop living skills such as cooking, money management, household shopping, doing laundry, personal hygiene, etc.
-Teach work-related skills and job preparedness; support residents in job search process and maintaining job performance.
-Record progress on skill development and achievement.
Behavior Development
-Serve as role model and mentor, demonstrate the desired behaviors, and coach the residents using approved techniques and strategies.
-Use approved physical intervention techniques when necessary to protect residents and others.
Operational Support
-Maintain cleanliness of program.
-Drive company vehicle to transport residents to their activities.
-Complete tasks that are beyond the resident's abilities.
-Follows policies and procedures for handling money.
Professional Behavior
-Act in a professional manner and communicates effectively with others.
-Complete training programs; attends required House and All Staff meetings.
Language Skills
-Ability to read, write, and comprehend English effectively.
Mathematical Skills
-Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
-Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to life up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
-The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
-The incumbent may be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, employees, family members and the general public; maybe subject to physically aggressive residents.
-The incumbent is subject to flexible hours including split shifts and varied days and times including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends depending on program needs.
Required Education and Experience
-High School Diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.), or equivalent required
-Must have legal status to work in the U.S.
-Must submit and pass a background study with the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services (employer paid)
Preferred Education and Experience
-High School Diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.), or equivalent required
-1 year or more experience as a DSP, PCA, or HHA working with persons with Developmental Disabilities, Mental Illness, and/or Chemical Dependency
-Valid MN Driver's License, insurable driving record and reliable transportation
Licenses/Certifications
-Must be able to complete Olu's Home, Inc. training programs and successfully pass associated tests to meet competency requirements to administer medication and pass CPR/First Aid Certification (employer paid)
