POSITION SUMMARY The patient service technician (PST) performs specimen collection by both venipuncture and capillary puncture, specimen labeling, and specimen processing. Verifies accuracy and quality of specimens collected and dispatches specimens to appropriate testing locations, and performs training of others in these techniques. Also performs test requisition entry, greets and directs patients through the lab and gathers complete patient information necessary to complete the registration and accessioning of all procedures done in the area. Performs point of care testing; ensures accuracy of results and Quality Control measures by maintaining equipment and instruments. Follows policy for chain of custody record keeping for pre-employment urine drug screen collections.
Minimum Education Required
HS Graduate or EquivalentRequired Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent required; Certified phlebotomist preferred; EKG training through an accredited organization preferred.
