The Common Market is Hiring a Baker Near Frederick, MD

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responds and attends to customer requests in the bakery department.
  • Responsible for various duties including preparing baked goods and other items for sale, arranging and wrapping bakery products, and placing bakery items in display cases.
  • Knowledgeable of proper food-handling procedures.
  • Follows established recipes and maintains quality of the highest standard.
  • Follows Health Department regulations and department sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Completes task logs and opening and closing procedures.
  • Completes temperature logs, labeling, and dating all stored products.
  • Discards product after expiration date is reached and completes shrink log.
  • Removes trash, compost and recyclable promptly.
  • Replenishes product quickly, ensuring key products are never out of stock.
  • Attends to spills and keeps appropriate prep/storage areas in a clean, orderly condition.
  • Uses equipment safely and follows safe knife-handling procedures.
  • Provides attentive, timely, and friendly service to all internal and external customers at all times.
  • Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the co-op.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
PREREQUISITES
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year's experience in a retail environment strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year's experience and familiarity with natural foods strongly preferred.
  • Supports the Co-ops core values and aligns with the Co-op Code of Conduct.
  • Solid numbers skills to accurately measure ingredients and determine baking times.
  • Practical baking skills.
  • Desire to work cooperatively with others in a team.
  • Capacity to deal with unexpected challenges and changes in one's environment.
  • Creativity for developing new products or decorating confectionery.
  • Adapts readily based on evolving co-op needs or in response to feedback.
  • Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, and weekends.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must wear closed-toe, skid-resistant shoes; a head covering (hat, bandanna, etc.); and long pants.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures (approximately 20F - 95F)
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Reliable access to transportation.
