Reports to: Logistics Manager Location: Redmond, Oregon or Mazama, Washington Status: Exempt, per diem Salary: $110 per dayAnticipated Start Date: April 3, 2024 (Oregon option 1) or May 3, 2024 (Oregon option 2 and Washington).This is a seasonal position and exact contractlength will be determined once schedules are created after training. Summer season ends 8/23 and our fall season runs until early November. They facilitate the packing of equipment and food, prep and drive vehicles, repair gear, prepare meals for staff and students, and restock inventory. The LC works directly with students and Instructors during course functions such as course start, resupply, or course end. They also work independently or with the logistics team in the warehouse. The workload for LCs is varied and dynamic, with time spent in the field sleeping at trailheads as well as time spent at the Base camp collaboratively creating and maintaining a healthy community culture.Primary Roles and Responsibilities Training: Attend, fully participate in, and complete 15 days of tuition-free training beginning in early April (OR) or May (WA), focused on educational, interpersonal, student management, and technical outdoor skills.Safety: Manage risk appropriately, drive safely on rough roads with trailers, and competent in loading and unloading trailers. Proficiency with manual transmission preferred. Responsible for safe food handling practices both in and out of the field. Role model and promote a culture of safety during work and while staying on basecamp.Leadership Knowledge and Skill: Work effectively with students 12 - 18 years of age and with students from a variety of backgrounds. Able to effectively work with staff who have different styles and experiences. Able to take initiative and carry out tasks individually and work cooperatively as a team member. Provide clear, effective, and timely communication to Students, Instructors, Course Director (CD), other Logistics Coordinators (LCs), and Administration.Course Delivery: Work directly with Course Directors to plan and assist course logistical functions. Participate in course planning, including management of gear/food pack out, course transports, and logistical course functions. A large part of LC time will be spent driving. In case of course evacuations, LCs assigned to the course must be on base and fit to respond to on-call needs. LCs will play a supportive role to CDs and Admin in case of evacuation.Educational Knowledge and Skill: Effectively plan and deliver engaging experiential-based lessons to achieve desired outcomes. Able to manage large group sizes and engage students in logistical activities.Outdoor Knowledge and Skill: Efficiently manage students with gear issue and gear de-issue, able to follow/create organizational systems, able to camp outside for course functions, prepare delicious and healthy meals for 30 people, and acquire expert knowledge with gear, maintenance, or repair in one or two course elements including; rafting, climbing, backpacking, sea kayaking, canoeing.Uphold NWOBS values and expectations on course and at base: We commit to personal growth in areas of equity, and inclusion; to act with integrity, role modeling excellence and craftsmanship while demonstrating compassion and respect for the diverse lived experiences of peers, students and families.Must be 21 years of age or older on May 1st, 2024.Possess current Wilderness First Aid and CPR Certifications or willing to obtain one before the date of training.Must have a valid US drivers license, held for a minimum of 5 years.1 years of extensive and comparable experience in risk management, experiential learning, and/or outdoor education.Experience driving large vehicles and towing a trailer preferred. Experience driving manual transmission preferred.Possess the mental stamina, adaptability, and emotional maturity to work and thrive in supporting austere/remote/challenging course environmentsMust be sufficiently fit to participate in all duties as assigned and maintain ample energy and focus to aid students and staff.
