Area Agency on Aging and Community Action Agency for Northwest Indiana, founded in 1965, the NWICA Mission is to ensure the people who experience financial hardship find opportunities, resources, and respect. We do this by helping individuals flourish regardless of income, ability, or age. Serving residents in Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski and Starke Counties.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- The Clinical Assistant is the initial point of contact for visitors, vendors, staff and callers and must maintain a professional yet friendly demeanor.
- Performs all clerical functions of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
- Assist the WIC staff in the WIC certification process of participants.
- Explains the WIC Program and its benefits to participants, and assist with WIC Program promotion/education and outreach for the purpose of maintaining and increasing participant utilization.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Thrives in being an active member of the WIC Program and CoAction Team.
- Completes and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the reception area.
- Answers the telephone in a timely manner and greeting participants in a friendly and professional manner.
- Responsible for screening and scheduling potential WIC participants via phone, face to face and mailing systems.
- Follows-up with participants regarding scheduled and missed appointments.
- Responsible for general clerical duties in the daily operation of the WIC office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possesses High School Diploma or GED equivalent minimally.
- WIC experience or knowledge of the program desirable.
- Basic knowledge of clerical work (filing, data entry, telephone etiquette, etc.) required.
- Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter, able to work independently, service oriented with attention to detail.
- Bilingual not required, but preferred.
