Job Description
The Director of Upper School is a campus leadership position responsible for overseeing and coordinating instructional programs and student support services with a focus on college readiness. The director will report to the principal to ensure the delivery of high-quality education and comprehensive student support in alignment with the school's vision and goals. This role requires a deep understanding of instructional practices, college admissions, student development, and a commitment to promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
Curriculum Development and Implementation
  • Lead the development, evaluation, and refinement of the high school curriculum to ensure alignment with state standards, college and career readiness, and the diverse needs of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and department heads to design and implement effective instructional strategies, assessments, and differentiated instruction to enhance student learning outcomes.
Instructional Leadership
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and provide feedback and support to teachers to promote instructional improvement and student engagement.
  • Foster a culture of professional growth and development by organizing and facilitating professional learning opportunities for staff.
Student Support and Interventions
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive student support system that addresses the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of all students.
  • Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and other support personnel to support all students develop post-secondary plans.
  • Monitor and analyze student data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement, and develop data-driven strategies to enhance student achievement and growth.
Positive School Climate
  • Develop and implement strategies and initiatives to cultivate a positive and inclusive school climate that supports student engagement, motivation, and well-being.
  • Collaborate with staff to establish clear expectations for behavior, respect, and responsibility, and create systems to reinforce positive behavior and address disciplinary issues.
  • Promote a restorative justice approach to discipline, focusing on conflict resolution, mediation, and social-emotional growth.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
  • Build strong relationships with parents, community organizations, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative partnerships that support student success.
  • Organize and participate in parent workshops, informational sessions, and other outreach activities to promote family engagement and involvement in their child's education.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education or a related field
  • Valid teaching certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional leadership roles, preferably in a high school setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and educational best practices.
  • Familiarity with student support services, including special education, counseling, and intervention programs.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and use data to drive decision-making and improve instructional practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and requirements related to instruction and student support.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity in education.
