The department is one of the medical research institutions working together as a national consortium to improve the way biomedical research is conducted across the country. The consortium, funded through our department, shares a common vision to reduce the time it takes for laboratory discoveries to become treatments for patients, and to engage communities in clinical research efforts. The department provides outpatient clinical services to support a wide variety of research studies involving human subjects with an array of investigators representing the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing, and others.
Essential Job Duties:
The RN will provide nursing services with a focus on the care of participants who volunteer for clinical research studies conducted primarily in an ambulatory setting.
The RN will provide specialized, professional nursing care to research subjects for healthy volunteers and to those with unusual and distinctive medical problems according to federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice, and local and institutional policies.
The RN will provide management of clinical and research support activities to assure patient safety, address clinical needs, and assure protocol integrity and accurate data collection.

Position Information
Requirements and Preferences
Work Schedule Monday to Thursday: 7 am - 5:30 pm; Friday: 7 am - 1:30 pm; occasional evening shifts Other Work/Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
* Providing direct, individualized care to adult and pediatric research participants
* Administering investigational medications
* Patient monitoring
* Phlebotomy and IV insertion
* Data collection including obtaining vital signs, measuring height and weight
* Assisting with procedures
* Performing ECGs
* Point-of-care testing
* Collection and processing of biological specimens
* Providing direction and health teaching where applicable and within the scope of practice concerning study protocol activities, reporting, and recording care rendered, and reporting the patient's response to that care.
Other responsibilities:
Administrative and non-direct patient care activities including cleaning of patient care areas and equipment, ordering and stocking of supplies, quality assurance activities, patient check-in/out and creation of outpatient visits in electronic health record, and other office duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience/Education
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina. A minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in an acute or critical care setting, urgent care, ambulatory setting, or physician's office.
Department Required Skills
* Must be able to work with a variety of people in a professional, effective, diplomatic manner and maintain effective communications with patients, health care personnel, staff, and others
* Proficient and currently practicing nursing care techniques and knowledge - including assessing and monitoring patients during and after medication administration for signs and symptoms of drug reaction, and responding appropriately in the event of an adverse reaction, as well as clinical skills such as administering injections (intramuscular and subcutaneous)
* Proficient at vascular access including inserting peripheral intravenous catheters and phlebotomy
* Experience with Epic or equivalent EMR for data entry and charting
* Detail-oriented and well-organized
* The chosen candidate must possess excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
* Ability to remain in front of a computer for extended periods, ability to bend to perform duties standard in providing health care, and the ability to move 35 pounds with or without accommodation
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
* Proven ability and/or comfort in providing care to pediatric patients.
Required License or Certification
The individual assuming this position must possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing with no restrictions or pending actions.
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR) certification required
