Job Summary 5th grade Lead Teacher is a professional, experienced, and passionate educator with teaching experience at the elementary school level. Reporting to the Elementary School Director, the 5th grade Lead Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering the 5th grade curriculum. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Create developmentally, grade appropriate and engaging lesson plans which utilize given curricula, combined with project based and experiential learning.
Demonstrate commitment to social justice and working with a diverse community
Work in a highly collaborative community to develop and implement a creative and challenging curriculum
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of subject matter made visible by effective teaching
Provide continuous student assessments throughout the year; work closely with the Director of Learning to decipher if and when supports need to be implemented for students who need scaffolding or students who need a higher level of challenge
Ability to consistently differentiate for individual students based on their unique learning needs: Through observation, assessment and investing in relationships the whole child, determine most effective learning strategies and delivery of instruction
Provide students with opportunities and support in the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills through inquiry and experiential based lessons. Lessons also incorporate the exploration of ideas, and the development of leadership qualities.
Attend and participate in weekly curriculum planning meetings
Participate in committee work, faculty meetings, parent coffees and additional duties as assigned
Lead parent conferences and maintain weekly communication with parents throughout the year
Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, New Roads philosophy and approach to education
Maintain and communicate high expectations and boundaries in a consistently kind and compassionate manner focusing on the whole child.
Qualifications
Knowledge of sound pedagogical skills
Strong background in math, reading, and writing instruction; ability to teach developmentally appropriate diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as social emotional learning at the elementary level
Experience and interest in differentiated instruction and a project-based, constructivist approach to teaching and learning
Understanding and experience in assessment and data driven instruction
Highly developed writing and organizational skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong foundation knowledge in child development
Possess excellent classroom management and restorative justices practices
Have passion for personal and professional growth
Minimum 5 years teaching experience at the upper elementary level (4th-5th-6th grade), preferably in an independent school
A Bachelor's Degree in a related educational field required; Masters Degree in Education strongly preferred
Preferred but not required:
Experience teaching at an independent school
Familiarity with Illustrative and/or CGI math
Familiarity with the Science of Reading
Familiarity with Step Up to Reading and Writing
The salary range for this role is $65,000 - $100,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and organizational needs.
