• Katzenbach School for the Deaf Description Under supervision at the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf, assumes the responsibility for the preparation and cooking of food in an institution kitchen serving generally in large quantities;
• Ensures that federal, state, and departmental requirements are met in the planning of menus and the preparation of food;

and performs other related work as required. Requirements Experience Head Cook 3 - 10 months : Three (3) years of experience as a cook which shall have involved the preparation of all kinds of food in large quantities in the kitchen of a club, hotel, hospital, restaurant, or institution, and which shall have included one (1) year of supervisory experience in a position embracing the responsibility for all phases of kitchen management.

Cook - 10 Months : One (1) year of experience as a cook involving the preparation of a variety of food in large quantities.

Note : Catering experience in a delicatessen will be acceptable. Deli counter experience in a delicatessen will NOT be acceptable.

Cooking experience in a fast-food establishment will NOT be acceptable. License : Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Preferred Education / Experience Familiarity with kitchen equipment and appliances, food safety and hygiene knowledge; Experience in menu planning and budgeting and cost-control skills.

Special Note (MKSD) Note : Ability to communicate in American Sign Language preferred, or a commitment to learn American Sign Language in two (2) years.
