ABOUT NEW CITY KIDS
New City Kids is a high energy, creative program for and with youth in Jersey City, NJ, Paterson, NJ, Grand Rapids, MI and Detroit, MI that is unique in trusting teens with leadership. It is a joyful place filled with laughter and hard work, and has an excellent staff of dedicated adults who love children. We employ local high school students as interns to lead an excellent and unique music- focused after school center and summer camp for children ages 6-13, which provides a platform for a whole host of development opportunities for children. As kids and teens engage New City Kids, we come alongside them and invite them to know the power of the gospel and to become disciples of Jesus Christ.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for administering day-to-day operations of accounts payable, cash receipts, and accounting. This role will play a foundational role in the effective ongoing operations of the organization. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accounts payable and vendor management: intake invoices from vendors, code to proper accounts and departments, and schedule for payment. Manage vendor inquiries and work with vendors for payment optimization and account reconciliation.
• Cash receipts and bank reconciliations: record cash receipts into accounting software, reconcile accounting software records with donor management system, and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Accounting and recordkeeping: record accounting transactions related to accounts payable, grants, receivables, and select month-end accruals. Perform month end close reconciliations in conjunction with Senior Accountant.
• Records maintenance: Organize and maintain data around cash receipts and cash disbursements for easy access.
• Teamwork: Coordinate and collaborate with Senior Accountant. Interact across departments to gain necessary information for accurate accounting.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 2 years of experience in an accounting role, with a track record of progressively increasing responsibility.
• Foundational understanding of accounts payable and accounting.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Experience working with enterprise level accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred).
• Prior experience in a nonprofit organization is a plus.
• This position is required to work in our onsite office in Grand Rapids, MI.
