Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory develops and supports nuclear propulsion systems for U.S. Navy ships. We design the world's most advanced, safe, and reliable reactor plants. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the design, testing, fielding, supporting and troubleshooting of critical instrumentation, control, and electrical systems for the Navy's NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers. These I&C and electrical systems perform reactor protection and control safety critical functions, demanding the highest degree of quality and reliability.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical, Computer, or equivalent Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Specific coursework and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: Microprocessor-based equipment, Control systems, or Power electronics
  • Strong written communication skills, with an ability to articulate technical ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills that will be essential to the candidate's ability to contribute effectively in a teaming environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through previous work experience.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Experience with digital instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience with electrical power and distribution systems.
  • Naval or commercial nuclear plant operational or design experience.
  • NIMITZ-Class or FORD-Class plant experience as a qualified Engineering Officer of the Watch, Propulsion Plant Watch Officer, Load Dispatcher, or Reactor Operator/Technician
  • Project Management experience.

Pay Range

$92,900.00 - $145,200.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel.
