Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, Assistant Director or Pharmacist, and according to approval of Hospital Policy and Procedures, performs assigned duties in the Hospital Pharmacy for the efficient preparation, distribution and billing of medications, and assist in maintaining pharmacy in compliance with JCAHO regulations.
Position Duties (Not all Inclusive)
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records
  • Participate in providing patient specific care standards as directed and follow service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction
  • Accurately and safely compound and label medications and parenteral admixtures
  • Utilize aseptic techniques in the preparation of parenteral admixture
  • Accurately fill individual medication orders
  • Computerized charging and patient credits
  • Answering telephone, receiving and relaying messages
  • Accurately transport medications and other pharmacy supplies in a timely manner to appropriate areas
  • Provide basic technical support for automated dispensing cabinets and other pharmacy computer systems
  • Perform receiving and check in of medication/supply orders as defined in policy and notify the pharmacy inventory manager of any shortages, overages or damages of product
  • Accurately package and prepare medications for dispensing as assigned

Qualifications
  • Required : Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Required : Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Certified by the National Healthcare Association (NHA)
  • Required : Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
  • Preferred : Two years of pharmacy technician experience.
  • Preferred : BLS (CPR)
