The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

We are looking for a Material Scientist with specialization in ceramics engineering for our Metals and Joining Center of Excellence (CoE) at Hayward, California.

  • Working with a team of materials and manufacturing experts, you will support the development of ceramic components such as electrostatic chuck (ESC) for the semiconductor industry.
  • You will interface with internal and external stakeholders to understand primary materials requirements and applications while developing materials whose properties will perform under indicated conditions.
  • Leverage internal and external expertise to build on existing and emerging knowledgebase to develop ceramic material, processing and design solutions that will facilitate customer success.
  • Interacts with operations, sales and engineering teams in different Morgan sites.
  • Be hands-on and carry out experiments and analysis.
  • Select, procure, operate and maintain relevant scientific equipment.
  • Write technical proposals for new projects. Structure and lead development projects, working collaboratively with internal and external resources.
  • Maintain comprehensive records through development, supported by succinct regular updates to business stakeholders.
  • Write SOPs and technical specifications.
  • Generate and support writing of research scientific papers and patents.
  • Support transition of developed products and processes into Operations.

This position would be placed at an appropriate level based on the candidates education and experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop material and process solutions for ESC
  • Assist in scale up and transfer of new technology
  • Interacts with operations, sales and R&D teams
  • Interacts with suppliers and customers when necessary
  • Good report writing and communication skills
  • Carry out experiments and analysis with minimum supervision
  • Write technical report at the end of each project
  • Assist in specifying and selecting equipment purchases related to ceramics processing
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Ceramics, Material Science or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the ceramic industry
  • Knowledge in sintering of ceramic body such as alumina and aluminium nitride is essential
  • Knowledge in material testing and microstructure analysis is required.
  • Familiarity with statistical design of experiments.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary, multicultural team.
  • Limited travel including international travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in semiconductor processing is preferred.
  • Co-firing of metalized ceramic body is a plus.
  • Experience in the manufacturing or assembly of electrostatic chuck is highly desirable.

Salary Range: Salaried exempt $93,000 - $140,000 plus bonus potential 20%
