Description
Monogram Food Solutions has a new, exciting opportunity for a Smokehouse Superintendent. This position will be based out of our largest production plant, currently in the process of additional growth, in Martinsville, VA. Here you can find our team members hard at work producing your favorite jerky, meat sticks, pickled protein snacks and portable snacks!
Responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:
  • Reports directly to the Operations Manager.
  • Performs duties of the Operations Manager in his/her absence.
  • Provides guidance and direction to their assigned Supervisors.
  • Mentor and coach to Production Supervisors.
  • Planning, directing, and coordinating the manufacture of products in compliance with company goals and objectives.
  • Maintaining employee safety and morale by creating safe and efficient working environment.
  • Ensure HACCP and other control documents are accurate and completed in a timely fashion. Maintain the highest standards of food safety.
  • Establishing and controlling conditions of production in order to satisfy customer and quality specifications.
  • Organizing and directing workflow for satisfying production requirements in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Investigation and analyzing new processes and innovations.
  • Developing cost-effective alternatives and improvements to production processes.
  • Managing inventory control of essential parts and operating supplies
  • Maintaining proper employment levels through selecting, interviewing, and training of personnel. Flexible on hours to coach team members on all shifts.
  • Coordinate operations with Scheduling Manager and Operations Managers.
  • Assist other operations as needed and as directed, this may include assistance with scheduling, sanitation, and production departments.
For Smokehouse Superintendents:
  • Responsible for the operations of smokehouses in their assigned plant (MV1 or MV2) across three (3) shifts and six (6) to seven (7) days of operations.
  • Manage Smokehouse processes and lead Smokehouse Operators in the performance of their duties which includes but is not limited to:
  • Load and unload smokehouses.
  • Set electrical controlling devices for time and temperature according to product being smoked.
  • Monitor cooking process, checking product at specified intervals.
  • Remove product when appropriate shrinkage has been achieved according to product standards.
  • Move product to tempering room for cooling.
  • Complete all required documentation which may include the documentation of temperature and actual ambient air temperature during every check and upon completion of cooking cycle.
  • Clean and sanitize smokehouses.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Follow GMP/HAACP procedures.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.
Additional duties include:
  • Calibrate ovens and/or verify calibration.
  • Trouble shoot oven performance and balance ovens when required.
  • Ensure oven throughput is accurately and timely recorded and reported.
  • Replace internal probes when required.
  • Provide overall management and oversight of the PBOs and liaise with Operations Finance as required.
  • Attend required meetings as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, logistics, or related field highly preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years' supervisory experience.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment required.
  • High-level leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Able to motivate, influence, and train people.
  • Able to interact with all professionals of Plant Management.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
