Summary

This position performs and assists in plant maintenance, operations, and construction required to maintain and improve plant capacity and quality of finished products. This position reports directly to the Shift Maintenance Supervisor or other equivalent inter-campaign supervisor.

Principal Working Relationships

  • Supervisor Campaign: Shift Maintenance Supervisor
  • Supervisor Inter-Campaign: Shift Maintenance Supervisor or other equivalent supervisor

Essential Job Duties

  • The Mechanic is involved in preventive maintenance on, installation of, and identifying and repairing problems on the following types of equipment:
  1. Pumps, Fans, and Compressors
  2. Gearboxes
  3. Conveyors
  4. Turbines
  5. Piping and Valves
  6. Tanks and Pressure Vessels
  7. Mobile Equipment
  8. Buildings
  9. Other Specialized Equipment
  • The Mechanic performs and assists in plant maintenance and construction. (Employees entering a mechanic classification will be evaluated and placed into one of the four levels of mechanics based upon their competence and ability. Mechanics that continue to increase their knowledge about process operations, the number and proficiency of skills they possess, and exhibit good work habits, may be allowed to test and interview their way to the next higher mechanic classification, until reaching Mechanic I.)
  • The mechanic will be knowledgeable and perform his/her assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner. All regulatory, OSHA and Company Safety Policies and Procedures will be strictly adhered to. The mechanic must become proficient in programs like, Lockout/Tag out, Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, Fall Protection, etc.
  • Assure that all work areas are kept clean within the food safety, feed safety, and sanitation guidelines (GMP).
  • Complete reports and documents accurately and punctually as required.
  • Develop the process and mechanical skills of self and others through training.
  • Use people, time, equipment, and material in the most efficient manner.
  • Report mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, environmental, food safety, feed safety, and operational problems, and unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Perform other work as directed by supervisor.
  • Other duties as required by the business.
  • Good attendance, safety, disciplinary, and overall employment records
  • Adhere to all company policies and all safety, food safety, feed safety, and sanitation rules and programs

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Prior satisfactory training and competent fill-in as Mechanic.
  • Mechanical experience desired.
  • Familiar with basic process operations.
  • Should be motivated, willing, enthusiastic, and promotable.
  • Good attendance, safety, disciplinary, and overall employment records.
  • Knowledge and willingness to follow all safety policies and procedures to insure personal and co-worker safety under all elevations, conditions and situations.
  • Physically capable of using all safety equipment required to work safely, and physically capable of safely performing all maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and understand written information including manuals, schematics and blueprints and to use good individual judgment without constant, direct supervision.
  • Organized with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels
