Position Overview
The Director of Israel Education will oversee teaching and learning of Israel Education (including Jewish peoplehood, zionism(s), and antisemitism) across all three divisions. The Director helps to develop a pluralistic, developmental approach to Israel education. This role supervises the development and implementation of Israel education in core curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular settings. The Director of Israel Education is a master of curriculum integration, and the core of the job is integrating Israel studies across disciplines and programs.
The Director of Israel Education reports directly to the Dean of Curriculum and Integration and is part of the Curriculum Leadership team, Student Life leadership team, and Instructional Leadership Team as needed. The Director of Israel Education frames ongoing conversation with the senior leadership team about vision and implementation of Israel education and partners with External Relations on navigating communal implications of programming.
Responsibilities
Curricular
  • Serve as the lead professional teacher and learner of Israel education, running meetings, providing articles, and staying on top of research and trends in instruction.
  • Work with the Dean of Curriculum and Integration on developing Milken's Israel curricula.
  • Work with the Dean of Curriculum and Integration on developing Milken's antisemitism curricula.
  • Teach two or three classes, including in Division 6-8.
  • Supervise Israel educators on campus.
  • Lead weekly team meetings, which include the Israel Education Coordinator and Israel Programs Coordinator.
  • Provide demonstration lessons and serve as co-teacher when needed.
  • Participate in all Curricular Leadership and Instructional Leadership Team meetings and training.
  • Review and provide feedback on faculty gradebooks, comments, website presence, and syllabi, as it pertains to Israel Education.
Co-Curricular and Extracurricular
  • Partner with Israel educators, Rabbinic Head, Divisional rabbis, Director of Student Life in embedding Israel in the culture of the school.
  • Oversee Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations with special focus on student-led programming and educational sessions.
  • Support Tiferet Fellowship, Robin Family Tiyul, Masa Trip, and Eastern Europe/Israel Trip.
  • Set vision and plan for Israel club(s) on campus.
  • Work with the Dean of Curriculum and Integration to set a vision and plan for Milken's Israel and antisemitism speakers.
  • Set a vision for Milken's participation in external Israel organizations.
Community Leadership
  • Advise administration on school-wide response and programming around Israel current events.
  • Develop partnerships with schools and student groups in Israel.
  • Work with Rabbinic Head in developing partnerships with Israel for Global Beit Midrash.
  • Partner with the Director of College Counseling and Academic Planning on Israel gap year programming.
  • Plan and implement education for faculty about Israel.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with Israel education in pluralistic and diverse communities.
  • 5 years of experience in educational leadership.
  • Understands curriculum integration.
  • Possesses excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Standard On-Campus Hours
Start: M - F by 7:45 AM
End: M, T, Th 3:15 PM, W 4:15 PM, F 2:30 PM.

SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - $110,000
