Your data estate may include systems doing data extraction, transformation (ETL (Extract, Transform and Load)/ELT (Extract, Load and Transform) systems), analytics, and visualization systems. Each of the systems captures rich static and operational metadata that describes the state and quality of the data within the systems boundary. Consistently governing and protecting data across an organization’s multi-cloud hybrid data estate is complex, highly manual and time consuming. Purview manages data policies across a customer’s heterogenous data estates based on “who (user/group) should have access to what kinds of data (e.g., “PII data” (Personal Identifiabkle Information), etc.) and for what purpose (user behavior analytics, etc.)” using information in the Purview platform. In addition, Policy Services automates the process to enable data consumers (from analysts to developers to threat researchers and more) to easily find the data they need and request access to that data in the context of their purpose of use. Granting access to those requests is governed – i.e., done by the appropriate data owners and in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
