Met Council is Hiring a Technology Instructor Near Brooklyn, NY

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hours Per Week: 15/Part-time

Shorefront Jewish Community Council (SJCC) provides support to help meet the human and social services needs of the indigent elderly, vocationally disadvantaged poor, and immigrant populations of Brighton Beach and surrounding communities. Currently, SJCC’s main services consist of case assistance/management, operating a large food pantry, and immigration services, and a large portion of its clients are Russian-speaking older adults, including a large number of Holocaust survivors. SJCC also assists in coordinating development, civic affairs, and economic revitalization in the area. SJCC also fosters neighborhood stabilization to serve the community's needs.

Position Summary:

As a Technology Instructor, you will be responsible for designing and delivering curriculum, providing hands-on instruction, and empowering adult learners to develop essential digital skills. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals seeking to enhance their literacy and technological proficiency.

Please note: This is a temporary position that is currently funded through June 30th, 2024.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive curriculum and instructional materials tailored to the needs and skill levels of adult learners with diverse technological backgrounds and abilities.
  • Conduct assessments and skill evaluations to understand learners' needs, interests, and proficiency levels, informing class selection.
  • Maintain the computer-learning lab, ensuring that all equipment and software are functioning properly, and create a conducive learning environment for participants, including set-up and storage of laptops at the end of each class.
  • Introduce fundamental concepts of using computers, smartphones, tablets, and other digital devices.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises to reinforce learning objectives.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and fosters confidence.
  • Offer individualized assistance and personalized guidance to address specific learning challenges and questions.
  • Incorporate relevant technology tools and resources to enhance learning outcomes and promote real-world applications.
  • Assess student progress and adapt instructional strategies accordingly to ensure effective learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum materials, lesson plans, and assessment tools aligned with program objectives.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and advancements in technology to continuously enhance instructional practices and curriculum content.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and feedback to inform program evaluation and improvement efforts.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning community that values diversity, respect, and mutual support among participants and promotes a culture of lifelong learning and empowerment.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

Skill and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred).
  • Experience in instructional technology, adult education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with adult learners from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, including those with limited literacy and digital skills.
  • Strong knowledge of educational technology tools, digital literacy resources, and assistive technologies for accessibility.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate learners of varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver effective instruction, develop curriculum materials, and assess learning outcomes.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for empowering individuals through education and technology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build positive relationships with learners, colleagues, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Russian-language fluency (preferred).

Compensation: $25 per hour.
