Job Summary

Georgia College & State University seeks a candidate with the enthusiasm, skills, and demonstrated ability to establish and grow a stellar music therapy program at one of the nation's top public liberal arts universities. We seek a highly motivated individual who will contribute to a learning environment with a talented student body. The successful candidate will serve as a faculty member and Clinical Coordinator of the undergraduate and equivalency master's programs. The candidate will also manage, oversee, and service the daily operations of our on-campus music therapy clinic, off-campus contracts, and local partners. The position includes coordination and supervision responsibilities related to practicum, fieldwork, and internships. The candidate will teach assigned courses dependent on the needs of the music therapy program and the qualifications and interests of the applicant. The job includes teaching, clinical and student supervision, and some administrative duties.

Responsibilities

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -

* Teach courses in areas of expertise and departmental need in the undergraduate and graduate music therapy program

* Mentor students

* Supervise music therapy students in clinical contexts

Faculty - Service to Institution -

Service may include work at any level within the institution and may include a balance of professional and non-professional community service. The majority of contributions in this area will be departmental service. Examples include but are not limited to the following:

* Support departmental programs and efforts at recruiting majors

* Serve as a member or officer on departmental, college, and university committees

* Develop and/or participate in special programs or projects

* Attend and encourage students to attend co-curricular activities organized by the department

Faculty - Professional Development -

Scholarship of teaching and learning is especially valued. Some examples of professional development activities include the following:

* Attend conferences

* Present at professional meetings

* Apply for grants

* Participate in professional organizations

* Publish in appropriate venues

Other Duties and Responsibilities -

* Maintain clinical documentation as Dutton clinical training records

* Promote and market individual and group services to generate contracts

* Conduct initial music therapy assessments for referrals

* Facilitate individual and group sessions with client centered, measurable goals, and process with student observers

* Maintain standard data gathering techniques during all phases of clinical processing, including assessment therapy and evaluation

* Adhere to established clinical documentation standards in a timely fashion

* Consult and work together with music therapy faculty to ensure that students are meeting clinical competencies in a consistent manner towards preparedness for full time internship placements

* Network, develop, and maintain contracts with relevant facilities

* Maintain MT-BC Georgia Music Therapy License and liability insurance

* Administrate clinical practicum and internship placements

* Administrate the Georgia College & State University music therapy clinic

* Provide clinical music therapy services to clients

* Supervise music therapy practicum students and interns

* Develop and maintain relationships with local music therapists and clinical training facilities

Faculty - Clinical Supervision -

* Assist and work together with Music Therapy faculty to ensure that students are meeting clinical competencies in a consistent manner towards preparedness for full-time internship placements

* Maintain MT-BC, Georgia Music Therapy License, and liability insurance

* Supervise music therapy practicum students and interns

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

The successful candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications:

* Documented experience providing music therapy services in a K-12 public school setting.

* Master of Music in Music Therapy, Master of Music Therapy, or Master of Science in Music Therapy

* Board Certified-Music Therapist (MT-BC) with at least three years of full-time music therapy clinical experience (or equivalent)

Required Experience

* Georgia Music Therapy License in good standing by August 1, 2024

* At least three years of supervisory experience with undergraduate music therapy fieldwork students and interns

* Demonstrated mastery of all professional competencies in music therapy

* Effective interpersonal communication, advocacy, and collaboration skills

* Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org -faculty credentials)

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

* Ph.D. in Music Education with an emphasis in music therapy, or comparable doctoral degree in Music Therapy (or A.B.D.)

* Five or more years, full-time clinical experience in music therapy (or equivalent)

* Teaching experience in music therapy at the university level

* Effectiveness as a music therapy clinician in at least one area of practice, for example, individuals with autism, early childhood, intellectual/developmental disabilities, or physical rehabilitation

* Experience with grant writing and accurately maintaining data and records

* Advanced music therapy certification(s), i.e., NMT, NICU, BM-GIM, etc.

* Strong vocal skills and experience

* Active membership in AMTA

ABILITIES

Ability to teach and clinically supervise undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Music Therapy degree programs.

Ability to work with others in service to the University.

All music faculty actively collaborate to participate in recruiting and retaining outstanding students to the music program; actively promote collaborative relationships across the university; advance department, college, and university goals by supporting the academic environment for the students at the university; and perform other duties assigned according to experience, expertise or departmental needs.
