Medical Office Representative
Job Description:
The medical office receptionist performs a number of duties to provide a positive experience for patients, families, and visitors at Meridian Pediatrics. The receptionist also supports the clinical and office staff to ensure efficient and effective daily functioning of the medical office. The receptionist primarily interacts with patients, families, and visitors in person, by phone, and by computer. The receptionist maintains confidential patient and practice information telephonically, electronically, and by physical charting.
Job Duties:
- Phone Service
o Answering incoming phone calls in a professional, friendly, and prompt manner
o Maintaining a compassionate and friendly tone while assisting callers
o Taking and delivering messages as needed, with patient charts when necessary
o Using discretion in discussing confidential patient information to ensure privacy
o Managing multiple incoming phone lines, communicating with fellow office staff to keep hold times to a minimum
- Patient Check-In and Check-Out
o Greeting patients, families, and guests in a friendly and professional manner
o Discreetly collecting, confirming, and recording patient demographic, insurance, and financial information electronically and on hard copy
o Preparing, verifying, and collecting visit encounter forms at time of visit
o Collecting any outstanding balances and providing receipts
o Booking future appointments as needed
o File all charts by the end of the day/Check In
- Medical Record Preparation and Maintenance
o Pulling and filing charts as needed
o Maintaining charts in good physical condition, coordinating with the office clerk to repair or replace charts in poor condition
o Protecting the confidentiality and security of medical records
Job Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly, patient, and compassionate disposition
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, emphasizing clarity and accuracy
- Basic working knowledge of computer and multiline phone systems
- Strong organizational skills
- Basic math and cash-handling skills
- Strong emphasis on professionalism and confidentiality
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 1 year of medical office experience or 2 years of receptionist experience
- Previous pediatric experience preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
