Hours: Monday-Friday; 7 hours daily - follows assigned building schedule

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To guide the success of each child with specialized support. Intervention Specialists work in a team environment working one-on-one or in small groups with students carrying out programs designed by the teacher or instructional II Specialist.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Documents daily interactions and monitors student performance including documenting behavioral observations under the guidance of the team.
  2. Performs instructional support as designated by the team members, individually or in small group, to increase time engaged learning time.
  3. Assist students in completion of tasks throughout the school day in multiple learning environments.
  4. Supervise and escort transitioning students throughout the school building throughout the school day.
  5. Responsible for students care needs such as providing snack, toileting, and hygiene on an as needed basis, as appropriate.
  6. Possess composure under stress. Provide team building with planning and organization.
  7. Performs all related tasks as directed by the team members.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Associates Degree, a minimum of 60 college credits, or 2 years experience in a related field.
  2. Maintains confidentiality as required by federal and state regulations.
  3. Ability to communicate positively and effectively with the program stakeholders.
  4. Knowledge of working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Emotional Disturbance in an academic setting.
  5. Ability to work in highly flexible situations; following directions and taking responsibility.
  6. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence, speak effectively with students, team members and families.
  7. Ability to provide safe crisis management and positive behavioral supports as part of a crisis team.
  8. Must be fully certified in both de-escalation/restraints in a crisis management program on a yearly basis.
  9. Ability to obtain and provide emergency and basic first aid care and toileting needs.
  10. Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and physically support a crisis situation.
  11. Knowledge of technology such as computer use and ability to provide support to student's educational program and collect behavior data.
  12. Will be required to maintain 20 hours of staff development activities/hours per year to comply with Pennsylvania Special Education Regulations.

  2. Ability to plan and organize work.
  3. Possess a working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment and use of simple mechanic tools.
  4. Demonstrate aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Ability to reach above and below the waist
  2. Ability to use fingers to pick up, feel, or grasp objects
  3. Some stooping, bending, and twisting of the body required
  4. Ability to lift and carry supplies and papers weighing more than 50 lbs
  5. Ability to sit, stand, walk and move throughout the building often for extended periods of the work day
  6. Must pass a Physical
