Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Bob Murphy Access Center, the incumbent provides case management to high-risk students with psychological and social concerns in the departments of Bob Murphy Access Center. The incumbent coordinates resources and conducts intakes and serves as campus liaison to promote, inform, and or collaborate with Division and Campus Partners. The incumbent on a regular basis meets with Lead Case Manager, discuss cases, and provides feedback and informed recommendations regarding cases.

Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disability management for mental health needs - Develop a disability management process and procedures for aiding student with severe emotional and psychiatric problems. Provides regular disability management counseling to students with disabilities, especially students that have mental health needs. Manage a student caseload, providing coaching, support, and advocacy.
  • Conducts intakes and serves as a campus liaison - Facilitate the accommodations process by collecting and reviewing disability documentation, conducting intakes, keeping detailed records, determining appropriate accommodations in conjunction with program/course learning goals and student needs, and educating students and faculty about their rights and responsibilities in compliance with the ADA and Section 504.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Fair Housing Act (FHA), and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Able to effectively support students with various disabilities, provide crisis counseling, and manage disability-related issues. Experience in a fast-paced office environment, attention to detail, and familiarity with university infrastructure and policies are essential. Strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and maintaining confidentiality are crucial. Ability to demonstrate independence, reasoned judgment, and flexibility in addressing departmental objectives and workload changes.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and four years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, or related field is preferred.
  • Four years of professional experience in a relevant setting preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience providing services to students with disabilities in higher education preferred.
  • Knowledge of mental health services for college students preferred.

  • Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,732 - $6,954 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,732 - $8,176 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
