Texas Children's Hospital is Hiring a Patient Safety Specialist - Critical Care Near Houston, TX

Job Summary

We are searching for a Patient Safety Specialist -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will coordinate hospital-wide Patient Safety data, evaluate adverse events through root cause analyses, facilitate safety initiatives, provide proactive risk assessments, and assist the Patient Safety Officer and Assistant Director in integrating improvements in patient safety into clinical operations.

Responsibilities

  • Helps develop an institutional culture of safety and non-punitive reporting
  • Works in conjunction with Risk Management and Hospital Departments in the design and implementation of an integrated reporting strategy for incident and other event reports
  • Coordinates all incoming incidents identified through the incident reporting system, other discrete systems, verbal reports, and sentinel event tracking
  • Develops reports with the identified opportunities for improvement including opportunity, process owner, and rational for selection
  • Identifies the key quality measures to be tracked on a routine basis within clinical departments/services
  • Designs and implements a plan for reporting the key performance measures and the identified opportunities for improvement to the principal Performance Improvement Committees and Leadership Committees of the Hospital
  • Coordinates the Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) in collaboration with the Patient Safety Officer, Risk Management, Legal and the Director of Quality & Safety
  • Provides staff education to nurses, physicians, and committees regarding patient safety, non-punitive reporting, and error prevention

Qualifications

  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
  • Master’s degree in a health-related discipline, public health, quality systems management, or business administration required
  • RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required
  • 3 years clinical experience required
  • Critical Care experience preferred
  • Excel & Powerpoint skills preferred
