JOB DESCRIPTION/ROLE SUMMARY
MMH Requires 100% of its employees, direct contractors and support staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, per state of Colorado vaccination standards mandate. Employees are required to provide proof of immunization or agrees to be vaccinated on their first day of employment.
Nurses providing chemotherapy infusion services will be required to successfully complete the ONS (Oncology Nurses Society) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification course. Validation of skills as evidenced by successful annual completion of the ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Guidelines and Recommendations for Practice. Certification may be completed after employment begins.
Compounding staff will become certified in sterile compounding to include hazardous drug sterile compounding. Training, testing, and competencies will be completed as required by the USP <797> and <800> standards.
The wound care nurse is a licensed RN with wound care experience, responsible for assessing and planning care for any patient with a pressure ulcer, other wound types or skin care issues, when consulted by the physician. The wound care nurse will collaborate with other members of the health care team in the treatment and management of acute and chronic wounds as well as in the prevention of pressure ulcers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Wound Care:

1. Assist and plan care for patients with wounds when consulted by a physician
2. Demonstrate competence and expertise in daily patient care, providing collaboration, direction, and instruction to staff in the application and use of current wound care products and resources.
3. Promote a team approach through collaboration with the physician, registered dietician, physical therapist, staff nurses, and family members
4. Serve as a patient advocate
5. Provide safe care according to legal, ethical, and institutional standards.
6. Serve as consultant to patient, family, staff.
7. Participate in setting standards and protocols for pressure ulcer prevention.
8. Assist physician with procedures and dressing changes
9. EMR documentation for appropriate wound care points and scribe for physician as needed.
10. Maintain up to date wound care knowledge through symposiums, professional journals, conferences, etc., and shares in this information with staff.
11. Responsible for maintaining customer friendly atmosphere
12. Promote fiscal responsibility in the use of wound care resources
13. Models and reinforces behavior consistent with goals for teaching the patient, communicates patient status to appropriate member of the healthcare team, and provides support to the family, as needed.
14. Monitors the prevalence and incidence of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and takes steps to correct problem
15. Ensures adequate materials are available for patients with wounds
16. Assess patients upon initial consult and re-evaluates at least weekly
17. Assist nurses with complicated dressing changes and with dressing suggestion with or without consult
18. Responsible for maintaining Patient Safety goals.

Chemotherapy:

1. Healthcare personnel who have contact with the patient, their waste, associated equipment, etc., will have special training to be aware of the safety concerns of handling the drugs, waste products and the patient during their stay at MMH (Melissa Memorial Hospital).
2. The curricula for RN's administering chemotherapy and biotherapy will include current and evidence-based content regarding:
3. Demonstrate proficiency regarding the safe preparation, storage, transport, handling, spill management, administration, and disposal of chemotherapy drugs and equipment.
4. Knowledge of chemotherapy drugs and the associated nursing implications
5. Knowledge of necessary technical skills required for the administration of chemotherapy agents
6. Identify appropriate physical and laboratory assessments for specific chemotherapy agents.
7. Demonstrate skill in venipuncture, including vein selection and sterile technique.
8. Demonstrate skill in care and use of various VADs
9. Identify patient and family education needs in relation to specific chemotherapy agents.
10. Identify acute local or systemic reactions as a result of extravasation or anaphylaxis in association with specific chemotherapy drugs, and appropriate interventions.
11. Demonstrate proficiency in the safe administration of chemotherapy and disposal of chemotherapy wastes and equipment.
12. Verbalize knowledge of institutional policies and procedures regarding chemotherapy administration.
13. Demonstrate skills and knowledge of Hazardous compounding room monitoring and procedural duties to maintain proper environment within the Compounding suite
14. Document pertinent information in the medical record.

III. Clinical activities and validation: The clinical practicum allows the nurse to apply the knowledge component to direct patient care situations. Emphasis is placed on the clinical skills that a nurse must demonstrate prior to being considered competent to administer chemotherapy.

1. Nurses will complete ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification Course.
2. Nurses will complete High risk medication test annually or as required.
3. The length of time spent in the supervised clinical practicum should be individualized depending on the nurse's ability and skill in meeting the specific objectives and institutional standards.
4. Nurses will successfully complete the evaluation tool, ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Guidelines and Recommendations for Practice annually.

In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon MMH needs or requirements.
Requirements
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS/ ENVIRONMENT:

• Physical: Walking, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and climbing stairs. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary and sedentary-light work.
• Mental Demands: Reading, writing, critical thinking, problem solving, people and conflict resolution skills.

• Environment: Work is performed in a clinic environment with frequent interruption

HAZARDOUS EXPOSURE :
Involves exposure to Hazardous drugs, blood, body fluids, or tissues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
RN License
Current BCLS certification
ONS (Oncology Nurses Society) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification preferred, this training will be provided if candidate has not obtained it before hiring.
2 Years direct patient care on Medical-Surgical Unit
2 Years chemotherapy experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
3 years direct patient care on Medical-Surgical Unit
1-2 years wound care experience preferred
Wound care nurse certification preferred
