MCHS Family of Services is Hiring an Equestrian Program Supervisor Near Mayville, MI
The Equestrian Program Supervisor is responsible for the creation and implementation of animal and equestrian programming. The Equestrian Program Supervisor will oversee the recruitment, care, and training of the horses, work collaboratively with staff to train and support volunteers in working with the horses, and supervise the barn staff who are responsible for the maintenance of the barn and its related facilities
Create and develop equestrian and animal programs for camp sessions as well as community activities and events.
Schedule and maintain calendar for community riding lessons
Implement safety/risk management policies and procedures in a caring environment for participants, volunteers and staff.
Check animals regularly for possible injury/illness and communicate any issues of concern to the Lead Barn Assistant, Director and/or veterinarian and manage any health emergencies that arise.
Help tack, lead, and/or sidewalk in lessons when needed.
Oversee the cleanliness of the animal facilities and buildings and assist Barn Assistants when needed
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
5 years’ experience of equestrian program management in a camp environment or with adaptive horsemanship preferred
Prefer 2 years minimum experience staff management.
Preferred certification through CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) or PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) or willingness to obtain either certification.
Current first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that is acceptable and meets requirements of the agency’s insurance carrier
Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard
Knowledge Requirements:
Knowledge and understanding of equine and animal behavior, senses, and communication as they relate to safe handling and riding.
Must have knowledge of basic animal first aid and be able to recognize signs of illness (colic, lameness, bloat, etc.).
Knowledge of the benefits of equine assisted services for individuals with disabilities preferred
Knowledge of electric fence repair and maintenance including supplies and equipment involved preferred.
Safe and appropriate use of cleaning supplies
