We have an opportunity for a Regional Director, Health Information Management covering our East Region facilities and reporting into our Corporate Headquarters.The Regional Director, Health Information Management-East is responsible for assisting in the overall strategy for coordinating HIM services across the multi- facility integrated healthcare system. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; plans, assigns, and directs workflow, appraises employee performance and rewards and disciplines; accordingly, addresses complaints and resolves problems; and actively oversees and manages production and quality control efforts. The Regional Director will implement and support all Corporate HIM initiatives and activities, as well as providing / supporting coverage at the facility level for department operations, reimbursement opportunities, various program implementation, and HIM specific system installations.This position oversees our facilities in Boston, MA; Springfield, MA: Erie, PA; Philadelphia, PA; Greenville, SC; and Dayton, OH.Responsibilities

  • Assists in identifying and implementing process improvements to decrease costs and improve service for applicable stakeholders.
  • Serves as the Regional Facility Privacy Official for assigned region. Serve as an internal consultant/SME (subject matter expert) on health information management issues including HIPAA & confidentiality.
  • Works collaboratively with the Health Information Management Departments. Oversees the delegation of the aforementioned task by the RHIMD assigned designee:
  • Participates in the development of health information management policies and procedures on release of information, confidentiality, information security, record reconciliation, document scanning, information storage and retrieval, and record retention.
  • Records Management Storage and Retention (non-centralized sites).
  • Monitors SPEAK / Commonwell (HIE Cerner).
  • Monitors State HIM and AHIMA legislation and accreditation standards.
  • Centralized Sites:-DNFB / Provider Hold.-Affiliate Processes (sending requesting uploading).-Provider Board Case Certification.-Resident Onboarding.-Surgical and Documentation Monitoring.-Closed Chart Reviews.-Moving notes to encounters.
  • Performs hospital site/virtual visits to assess the efficiency of HIM related tasks and responsibilities, as needed. Coverage for HIM Managers while on PTO/LOA/Open positions within Region.
  • Participates in and/or facilitates (as applicable) MR/UR Committee, Directors Meetings, Forms Committee, and other meetings/committees identified.
  • Works with the facility to improve medical staff practice patterns including documentation requirements and those needed to facilitate support services such as transcription, coding, and revenue cycle.
  • Proactively works to resolve (including corresponding communications and escalation paths) significant issues in HIM related workflow processes.
  • Completes monthly trending analysis of applicable HIM workflows such as: encounter reconciliation, document scanning, HIM Dashboard, and process performance reports.
  • Works collaboratively with the facility HIM Managers/Corporate Managers to improve processes and meet desired shared goals.
  • Participates in the education, mentoring and training to healthcare system's employees in areas relevant to Health Information policies and procedures and scanning of documents for inclusion in the EMR. Provides timely guidance and feedback to help strengthen the knowledge/skill set of others to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
  • Change Management - Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability - maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or the work environment, Evaluating cost structures and budgetary impact of proposed changes. Assisting with the restructuring of the staff component to optimize the effective implementation of projects and policies.
Qualifications Experience Required/Preferred:
  • 5 Years Acute care HIM department head level management experience required
  • 3 Years Development and management of HIM department budget experience preferred
  • 3 Years Project Management experience preferred
  • 3 Years Applications, database applications and report writing software experience preferred
Education Required/Preferred:
  • Associates in HIM required
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification through AHIMA required
  • Master's or Bachelor's in HIM preferred
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification through AHIMA preferred
  • Certified in Healthcare Privacy & Security (CHPS) preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft computer applications; excel, word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills required; excellent business judgment, decision making, and business savvy are also essential.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of regulatory requirements; CMS, HHS, HIPAA Privacy
  • Experience working collaboratively with IT, HIMS, Finance, Compliance, Managed Care, Business and Clinical Operations are important.
  • Strong understanding and appreciation for the automation of the revenue cycle functions and the engagement of the customer in that automated process.
  • Knowledge of applied statistics, process analysis, and outcomes analysis.
