St John's Preparatory School is Hiring an Activity Program Specialist Near Danvers, MA

Activity Program Specialists are responsible for the delivery of an intentional, developmentally appropriate, innovative activity curriculum that should enhance a camper’s experience and skills within the activity domain. These positions will report to the Administrator for Camper Experience.

About St. John’s Prep

St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Founded on the Xaverian values of compassion, humility, simplicity, trust, and zeal, we educate students to be, do and stand for good in the world. We enroll approximately 1,500 students from more than 90 communities in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

We are seeking Activity Program Specialists in the following areas:

Arts and Crafts: Planning and teaching art explorations and projects with campers grades 1- 8. Campers visit up to four times during a week and spend 40 minutes in class.

Archery: Planning and teaching sports, games and archery to all age groups across camp, grades 1-8. Campers visit up to four times a week for a 40 minute class.

Science/Nature: Planning and teaching experiments and nature investigations with campers grades 1-8. Campers visit up to four times a week for a 40 minute class.

Music/Drama: Planning and teaching drama and music games and exercises for campers grades 1-8. Campers visit up to four times a week for a 40 minute class.

Elementary Arts- Plan and implement daily 40 minute art explorations for Pre-K/K groups of 15 in a summer camp setting.

Elementary Musical- Plan and implement daily 40 minute lessons of music and/or movement activities for Pre-K/K groups of 15 in a summer camp setting.

Elementary Science- Plan and implement daily 40 minute science or nature explorations for Pre-K/K groups of 15 in a summer camp setting.

Dance/Yoga- Plan and implement daily 40 minutes lessons of dance and/or yoga activities for PreK- Middle school students in groups of up to 25 in a summer camp setting

Essential Job Functions:

● Design and implement an activity curriculum for the whole summer, with consideration given to different age groups and theme weeks.

● Manage campers when instructing along with a team of counselors as a supportive resource.

● Responsible for maintaining supplies and equipment, and working with the summer administration team to order supplies as needed. All materials purchased will belong to the program.

● Become a resource to counselors and create deliverable content to all counselors that they can implement with their groups away from the Activity Program Specialists.

● Activity Program Specialists assist with all aspects of the camp day when not scheduled in their area-including but not limited to arrival and dismissal, weather protocols, special events, etc.

● Clear communication with leadership about camper behavior, staff issues, safety concerns, etc.

● Camp staff day is 8:30AM - 4:15PM, with a 30 minute on campus break.

● Other duties as assigned.

Other Job Duties:

Attendance at staff training and staff meetings is mandatory. Some Activity Program Specialists may have additional responsibilities if they are attached to Sports or Exploration Camps, which may include- curriculum planning, equipment or supply procurement, camp-specific meetings.

Qualifications:

The successful candidates should have at least two years of camp/youth program experience, with at least one year of staff supervision experience. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus but not necessary. Activity Program Specialists must be able to work 7 weeks of the 9 week camp season.

Physical Aspects of the Job:

Summer at St. John’s is set on a 175-acre rolling campus with two pools and seven fields. Candidates must be able to follow the camper schedule on foot each day, be able to lift up to 30 pounds, participate in games and activities, and maintain a healthy presence during the long outdoor camp day.
