Mercy University is Hiring an Associate Director, Career and Professional Development Near Bronx, NY

Job Posting Summary

The Associate Director, Career and Professional Development provides vision and leadership in the design and delivery of career services, programming and tools for Mercy University students and alumni. This role is responsible for collaborating with the career team in developing and implementing an engaging, creative and comprehensive suite of career readiness programs, services and tools across all Mercy University locations and online. The Associate Director represents the Career Team on the Bronx campus and takes ownership of career-related programming and interdepartmental collaborations for their campus.
The Associate Director will spearhead an exciting new initiative to proactively connect students with a new group of Alumni Career Ambassadors for advice, job shadowing, and internship opportunities. In close collaboration with the Director of Career Education, this role will take primary accountability for shepherding the success of this new initiative, and will assume responsibility for launching, managing, tracking, and assessing engagement in the related technology platform. This role has a high level of independent responsibility and high expectations for regular collaboration to ensure a successful implementation.
The Associate Director co-leads at least one Career Community, providing career coaching and ensuring robust programming and resources are available for their cohort of students.
Ability to travel between campuses is required, as is ability and willingness to work evenings/weekends.


Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Launch and manage new student-alumni connections initiative: (1) Work with vendor to implement new connections platform, and manage it daily. Troubleshoot technical difficulties for all stakeholders. (2) Obtain or develop marketing materials and informational resources for a range of stakeholders including students, alumni, faculty, staff, administration, and community members. Drive marketing campaigns to recruit students and alumni to use the platform. (3) Proactively foster interactions between students and alumni through informal online conversations, on campus events, job visits, and internship postings from alumni. (4) Collaborate closely with Alumni Relations team to recruit Alumni Career Ambassadors to the program. (5) Regularly track and analyze engagement through the program. Write reports and prepare presentations and data visualizations to update various stakeholders on the effectiveness of the program. (6) Proactively identify areas for improvement and propose solutions.
  • Collaborate with and provide leadership to the Career & Professional Development team in planning and executing undergraduate Career programming, including: career fairs, career event support; resume building; interview skills; LinkedIn; job/internship search strategies; professional etiquette and other programs and services consistent with advancing undergraduate student career readiness and career management skills. Ensure appropriate content for traditional college students and non-traditional adult populations.
  • Co-Lead a Career Community: (1) Collaborate with co-leads to ensure regular programming and outreach to a cohort of students pursuing similar career paths, (2) Develop expertise and build relationships with faculty and staff to ensure community-specific opportunities and relevant resources are available to students. (3) Support career-in-curriculum initiatives in your related School.
  • Provide career coaching and education to undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni in one-on-one sessions and in groups.
  • Build and facilitate collaborative relationships with partners across the Division and University, including student groups, faculty, and staff. Get to know the Bronx campus in particular and ensure that the department and our programming are well represented on your campus.
  • Oversee the Career Closet, located on the Bronx campus, where students can access free professional clothing.
  • Manage staff member(s) and/or student employees, if assigned, ensuring workload is appropriate, development opportunities are provided, and feedback is given regularly.
  • Document constituent interactions in a data rich environment.
  • Support Admissions and other groups’ events, as needed, which will include periodic Saturday and evening hours.
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum five years’ experience required, with one to three years supervisory/managerial experience required; career development experience in a higher education setting strongly preferred. Knowledge of healthcare and nursing career paths strongly preferred.
  • Experience with launching or managing an online system as a superuser required.
  • A high level of computer proficiency in business technologies including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams; Zoom; and internet search engines required. Experience with education / career systems such as Banner, Handshake, uConnect, Big Interview, and Focus 2 or similar strongly preferred. Comfort with and interest in learning new systems required.
  • Creative problem solving skills and ability to multitask in a dynamic environment is essential.
  • Ability to work with a highly diverse student body and collaborate with a wide range of faculty, staff, administration and business representatives required.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, interpersonal relationships, and written and oral communication.
  • Highly organized with strong presentation skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter able to work independently with great levels of responsibility, while collaborating and communicating with a multi-campus team, required.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.


Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per University policies
Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.
Mercy University promotes a community campus environment. As a result, employment is limited to the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.
